I went to a New Year's Day party and had a wonderful time. Is it proper to call and thank my host or hostess or is that not necessary.

If you have an address....a nice little note card would be nice...After having a very busy week-end in the preparation and then the party itself...phone time is not probably what she needs at this time. If you don't have an address, I would wait a few day, but by all means a Thank you would be appreciated I am sure.

Yes, it is proper and actually it's even more proper to write a short thank-you note. If you can't do that, then by all means call and thank your host and hostess.

I don't think the host likes receiving thank you calls all day after the party. Send them a thank you card.

Some people might not think it is necessary, but I am sure that the hosts would appreciate it, I say go for it.

It is very much necessary for a reason. The reason is this etiquette, which will prompt your host to invite you again.

Yeah a quick call or even a text depending how well you know them would be nice of you.

The best thing to do, in my opinion, would be to write them a very gracious thank you note (if you know the address). If you don't know their address, a simple call would definitely be appropriate and appreciated! Everyone loves to be recognized.
