When the first one is potty training is a good rule to have another, that way by the time you give birth, the first should be potty trained and out of diapers.
This will save time, money and energy.

Go back to school and wait. I have a 5 year old and a sixth month old. I got pregnant with the second one 2 semesters away from going into clinicals for my degree and after I having him he was sick and I ended up having to sit out 2 semesters instead of just 1 and now I am way behind. Besides I would rather have waited till we were more financially stable with the larger income I will have when I am done with school. Good luck whatever you choose.

That's a very personal decision. I decided when I had my last child to stop working and raise him for a couple of years. We do want a second one, but I don't want to start working and then stop again (I don't personally feel day care is a right choice for us - I like raising my child myself).... we've decided that even though we have an 8 month old still, we're going to go ahead and start trying for the second one now -- just so I can remain off work and then go back when they're both in preschool. You just have to look at your family and financial situation and make the best choice for you.....then, what will happen, will happen....

I'm in a similar boat as you. We have a 13 month old, love her to death, however I'm no spring chicken, but also I am not ready to be pregnant and do all that again.
As you know kids make everything harder. How long will school take? If you can get that out of the way before having another child, you will be more likely to finish and then you'll have that part of your life taken care of.

Personally, I believe that children deserve ample time as the "baby" of the family, and I have noticed that children who are close together in age fight like cats and dogs, whereas children who are five or more years apart get along better, with the older child taking on a kindly, caregiving role. Furthermore, dealing with two children in diapers, who need to be dressed by you and given other hands-on attention, is the pits. It will take you an hour to get out the door - if you hurry. I think waiting till your child is four or five is best.

My children are 19, 11, 5, and 3.......and I love them all, and there are pros/cons to the age range between each one.
You have to do whats right for you, and your situation.

spacing them where there is a 2 or 3 year space is a good time, they are close enough to play with each other but yet old enough to have space also.

I REALLY DON'T THINK THERE IS A WAITING TIME TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE. IT IS REALLY UP TO THE PARENTS, IF YOU WANT ANOTHER ONE GO AHEAD AND DO IT.
