i wish my dad would call and ask me to go out for lunch !!!
go and have lunch with him
dont stretch lunch out too long and then you will still have plenty of time for your uni work
give the alcohol a miss with lunch otherwise you wont feel like doing any uni work
enjoy

tell him you are very behind at work cause of the holidays and if he can eat lunch in 20-30 minutes but you wouldnt want to waste his time or gas for a rush lunch that you guys could do at a later time to actually enjoy it instead of rushing. Them maybe at that lunch you two could talk about how you felt about xmas and the tension. That would definately require extra time.

Yes - go! It is always best to sort out these things straight away otherwise issues drag on and you dwell on them and bits get blown out of proportion and - well, it can be a disaster. It will distract you from your work as well - so pack up for an hour and spend some quality time with your precious mum and dad.

I think you should go to try and bridge the gap, it sounds like your dads making an effort to re-connect with you, so don't reject that unless you really have to... However, if you really feel uncomfortable about being able to do your work and really want to stay home, Tell him you have work, this will show him your not just ignoring him, otherwise, chances are, he may not make the effort again...
good luck

It sounds like he's offering an olive branch. Bin the Uni work for today and go and have a free lunch with your pop.

Go, after the stress of xmas it'll do you both good. Tell your dad you can only stay out 'x' amount of hours as you have loads of uni work to get done, he'll understand that.
Have fun!

To be honest I can relate to this as I spent most of Christmas walking on eggshells with my parents and they live over 160 miles away. If it were me I would say that I am too busy with uni work and that my education is very important to me.

Unless you've got a crystal ball I suggest you take him up on the olive branch. You don't know what's around the corner and you may not get another chance.
