Interesting question sir! Rocky of course beat Jersey Joe Walcott for the title and gave him a return match in 53, beat top contender LaStarza in 11 rounds and then fought two brutal fights with former champion Ezzard Charles who was still a top notch fighter and contender at that time. In 55 Nino Valdez a Cuban sensation emerged as the #1 contender but his chance was derailed when the 'Ol Mongoose Archie Moore defeated him. Archie also beat contenders Bob Baker, Harold Johnson and Jimmy Slade and replaced Valdez as the top contender for Marciano's crown. Of course Rocky beat Archie in 9 rounds. Tommy "Hurricane" Jackson was being considered for a shot in 56 along with the young Floyd Patterson. Rocky who had back problems, pressure from his family to retire, and a deteriorating relationship with his manager hung up the gloves undefeated and still at the top of his game. Rocky never avoided any of the top black fighters of his day at all and that is a fact.

Rocky fought black heavyweights. Archie moore, jersey joe walcott, joe louis. Joe louis was a black heavyweight champ before rocky had the belt. Blacks were fighting in the ring at the time marciano was there and he fought them all.

Patterson was around at this time but he was not ready. He probably could have given the Rock a good fight. Liston was around also but I think he had just started. That would have been a great fight.
