I have always believed in God, but I greatly respect atheists as long as they don't hate me or my beliefs or my God, which some do and some don't. I'd rather talk with a sincere atheist than a Bible-thump-er, at least atheists trust their minds and themselves. The one observation I have of atheists, is that they don't believe in a supreme being because they cannot reconcile the suffering they see in the world with a just and loving God. Their question is always, "How can a loving God create suffering?" The answer to that I myself still struggle with, but it is because of that mystery that I believe. There must be a reason, a good reason for human suffering, otherwise the universe would make no sense; I prefer to believe in a rational, systematic and lawful universe, where everything happens for a reason. That is my faith, friend.

Being an atheist is no excuse for being an @sshole.

I haven't believed in G/god(s) for a long time, but I know how to use the "check spelling" button and how to approach a religious topic without offending everyone within arm's reach. Basically, many religious people hate atheists because atheists like you give us a bad name. Please, if you're not willing to learn at least a little bit about what you're talking about, just don't say anything. It'll make it much easier on the rest of us. Thanks.

I respect people who do not succumb to dogmatic beliefs, whose beliefs they derive themselves through logical means and experience. They may be Christian, Islamic or Atheists, and I would respect them, so long as they respect the beliefs of others.

I am not an atheist. However, I find that atheist are often either of two types. The permanently angry person with a lot of issues, or the thoughtful one who rejects God after much consideration. Unfortunately, most, who practise a religion are fairly dogmatic. Anything outside their perceived scheme of the universe must be heretic. Intellectual integrity? How dare you mock . The says he exists and so he must.... And I am years old. I know what I'm talking about.

The above represents the kind of 'logic' often used. I am not attacking religion. However, I cannot respect anyone who cannot defend his religion (when asked politely) without resorting to the abovementioned 'logic'. That being said, although you are angry, you may not want to call a holy man of any religion an idiot. You may not believe in him, but others do, and it doesn't help anyone to indulge in pointless name-calling.

The quest for knowledge should only have a beginning, never an end (barring death). No, you don't need to learn the true BS, but you should often reflect upon all things, and if someone comes along and coerce you to their point of view, then just ignore them (its hard I know).

I too am an atheist, but I try to live in harmony with all living things. I have respect for people who have strong beliefs, but don't judge me for mine. I don't want their judgement, criticism or pity. May I suggest you do the same. People who believe in a diety are not worshipping an idiot and you are being disrespectful by using that word.

I have nothing against athiest people, but dont come on here and say that the God I believe in is an idiot that doesn't exist, I don't trash what you do or do not belive in dont do it to us. Your beliefs are your problem. Whether you believe or not is not my concern, but you do make it difficult to like you when you bash God like that.

Atheists are hated not because of their beliefs but for their blatant lack of respect for other people as you just demonstrated. Not all atheists are like you and I have friends that I enjoy because they are intelligent and can argue a point respectfully relying on facts. In your short question you created offence for no reason by calling a non existent entity an idiot. Firstly that is not logical and secondly your motivation was to offend. That makes people not like you.

Atheism is fine because some people like it. There are even some religions which have no God. But you are in a small minority which is shunned by the majority and may encounter persecution. For example George Bush has publically stated that he does not consider atheists to be citizens of america

For one thing a Christian does not hate Atheists. we do become angry just like you for the same reasons, because Atheists come in here and tell us just what you don't like us telling you, that your beliefs are wrong.

An atheist is defined in two senses: Someone who says he believes there is no God, and someone who simply lacks belief in God. An atheist cannot say he knows there is no God, because he would have to know all things in order to know if there is or isn't a God. If he says he believes there is no God, ask him why he believes that way, and begin there. If he says he lacks belief in God, then ask what he does believe in, and start there. I always get around to the question of, "How did we get here?" Since creation and evolution are the only options, I have something further to work with.
Evolution has a lot of problems with it. It seems to me that it takes a lot of faith to believe that you developed out of ocean slime, simply by chance. At least as a Christian I have the evidence of the resurrection of Christ from eye witnesses as recorded by them in the gospels. Evolution or not, Jesus rose from the dead, said He was God, and forgave sins. I'll put my faith in Him instead of evolution.
An agnostic says he doesn't know if there is or isn't a God. (Usually after saying this I challenge them to explain the prophecies of the Old Testament fulfilled in the New. I state how the Bible is unique that way, and that only God can make prophecies that are 100% accurate. Then I ask him to explain how that could be done if there is no God.)
If there is no God as you say, then in the end I lose nothing. But if there is a God like I say, in the end you lose everything.
Why don't you believe in God? Is there any reason for you to intelligently reject His existence? Or, do you simply desire not to believe in Him?
The Bible doesn't attempt to prove that God exists. It simply speaks as though He does. Maybe I can't prove to you there is a God, but I can introduce Him to you through His Son Jesus Christ, and you can judge for yourself if the Words of Christ in the Bible convince you of His existence.
(Note: We exist. How did we get here? An atheist's only option would be to say evolution. If you study evolution, by reading Christian books that reveal and document its many serious problems, then you will be able to weaken the atheist's belief in it. The logic is simple: If evolution and creation are the only options, to remove one is to support the other. Therefore, learn as much as you can about evolution. Your witness will be greatly strengthened.
However, evolution does not explain the origin of life, only its development. Discussions on origins of life are interesting in themselves.)

Those who say that there are no absolutes are often very adamant about their belief. If they say that they are absolutely sure, then they are wrong because their own statement is an absolute. If they are not 100 percent sure, then there is a chance that they are wrong and they are risking their eternal salvation by trusting in a wrong belief. God tells us that there is an objective, absolute truth that is not subject to man’s interpretations or whims, on which we can base our eternity. That truth is the Word of God (John 17:7).
