If you pay NIC's and Income tax and due to immigration rules you aren't allowed to claim benefits how fair is this? Should I be entitled to not pay these contibutions as I wouldn't be allowed to get benefits anyway in case I would become ill or handicapped?

Curt, do be so harsh, I didn't come to the UK for benefits. I have held jobs since my 15th and even wehen I had right to benefits (in Holland) I didn't use it as long as I could survive. I am talking about the fact that when I would get an accident or would be made redundant. In the first case I should be able to claim as I am paying also NIC and Income tax. In case I would be made redundant I would definetly search for work and would even do work that YOU probabnly wouldn;t considder. GET THE PICTURE?

I am really disgusted by the racist remarks in these replies. Again I am not intending to take benefits!!!! But do you think it's fair that if you pay for something you wouldn't be able to claim? And for those intteligent people answering! I will not go back just because you want me to. Stop blaming legal EU immigrants Blame your YOBS that are to slow to understand they have to work also!

It's not exactly fair but.... it could be argued that the taxes we all pay go toward much more than just welfare benefits, they pay for things like schools, police, roads, health, defence, which are suposed to benefit the community generally.

There are benefit entitlements for EU citizens who have contributed for a certain period, it may be two years, but I'm not sure on the details of this.

Ignore the racists who infest the internet.

Well, illegals aren't supposed to be here and you are welcome to go back home, since you think this is unfair to you personally. I assume you make a lot of money and instead of getting a subsidy from us called an 'earned income credit' we give to poorer people legally here, you would actually be paying taxes, right?

As a class illegal immigrants are poor and CAN'T pay enough tax to cover even the education costs they impose on us for their children - $10,000 per child per year in California, not counting construction costs for all of the new schools we are having to build. As a class they make us pay for medical services for prenatal and childbirth care, at thousands of dollars per child. As a class they do use health care we pay for to the extent that 80 emergency rooms in the state of California have had to close and other towns across the nation are now facing the same problem.

On the other side they do pay into Social Security (the ones who are in a job with old or fake ID who have taxes taken out) and assuming they are never given amnesty, they won't get benefits from that. If they ARE given amnesty, we lose that small offset of their costs while here, as well, and continue to pay even more benefits to them that poor people legally here are entitled to.

You think this is a bad situation for you, stop breaking the law by being here. We are firmly against you being rewarded for stealing education from our children and health care from our sick.

Americans are forced every pay period to pay taxes which are then given to illegal aliens to help them turn our country into a cesspool! Fair & equitable are not in the equasion....

Why should any asylum seeker be allowed to claim any benefit any way ?
The people in this country have paid these taxes for many many year`s and our ancestor`s have done the same !
What make`s you think you have the right to be apart of the system ?
Our health service is crippled because of people coming into our country and having operation`s then leaving again some of the elderly people in this country are having to wait for vital operation`s because of them .
If you don`t like it go back to your own country !

maybe you need to clear up your immigration paperwork. Why do you need benefits? If you can't make it there, go somewhere else.
