It is your phone, you set the rules to your life. If you care about your calls but are too tired to answer, use a maching or an answering service.
You should not be required to answer your phone unless you are up to it. NObody should expect anything less and I do not believe that anyone would think that it is rude. It goes along with not answering while your family has dinner or "family time" if you have a family, or even while you are sleeping. Don't worry about it and get your rest.

Nope. I am notorious for not answering my phone! people are more surprised when I do answer. For myself, I talk on a phone for 8 1/2 hours a day at work , that;s my job. So when I get home, I dont feel like talking. Turn the ringer off and get some rest!

Not in the least. In fact, I will often turn my phone off altogether at this point. Once I get to a certain level of tiredness, I can't trust myself to be civil to whoever may be on the other end of the line. It would be far better, in a case like this, to let an answering machine or voicemail service take the call for you.

Of course not! Why would it be rude to ignore an unwanted interruption?
It would be rude to answer it and scream insults at the caller but it's hardly rude to simply ignore it, turn the ringer off, or unplug it.

Not at all. If it is important, they'll call back. If it's really important, they'll call back right away just in case you didn't get to the phone in time. The phone is supposed to be a convenience, not an inconvenience.

Absolutely not.
If it's an emergency or something of importance, the caller will most likely leave you a message. If you need to return the call immediately, you can.
