ok I had this cat like 3 months and believe me nothing worked this cat wont let us get close to him he is gorgeous orange long hair with gold eyes BUT his personality is terrible.... he hissed when you get close to him we have touch him but in like random situations like when he is in the closet and we try to warm him up a little he only comes out in the night when we go to sleep and he hides under our bed all day long .... What my BF and I decided to do is to send it to a shelter but when we called this lady from the shelter she made us feel like s-h-i-t, saying that we have to learn to love it and to get use to his personality because if we take him to the shelter he is going to get killed. . Our 55th plan was to block all his hiding places and when ever he walks out of our room in the night we shot the door and that way he can just get used to us being around him doing what we normally do during the day he has his little bed and all that in the living room ….. I woke up today and I see the cabinet open ( we taped that door ) some how he opened it ………. I am going to wait till he comes out of that cabinet and tide the door with a rope and force him to be around us what you think? I am not going to get close to him but at least he will be around humans

Try to talk to kitty all the time he listens to the tones in which u speak. If he's so young he should b interested in playing w/you string or toys. Have a vet check kitty out

Three months is a very long time for this behavior to continue. I think it is a serious problem and I would suggest you go to www.spiritessence.com and contact Dr. Jean Hovfe and Jackson Galaxy about it. You can make a simple phone call to Colorado and have them suggest some flower essences to use on the cat or even consider going further and having a consultation from Dr. Hovfe and Mr. Galaxy. Phone number is at that site and fees for consultation are also posted there.

Time is not the answer here. The unfortunate cat is having serious problems in adjusting and I feel this might be an avenue for you to try to help him and make him a more acceptable cat in your home.

Your cat is naturally skittish. Something may have happned to him in the past too that has made him a little distrustful of humans. The best tack to take with a cat like this is to NOT force him to socialize until he is ready. If he wants to hide, let him - that is essential becuase the cat needs to feel secure. In the meantime, just go on with your daily routine and IGNORE him for the most part except when you are going to feed him. Then just call his name quietly, coax him out with the food and give it to him. If he lets you, pet him behind the ears a little, but don't attempt to pick him up if he is still shy. In time, he will learn for himself that you are harmless and that you are actually "FREIND."

Don't lock cabinets and stuff to keep force him outside. The cat will just freakout. Beleive me, in time he will calm down ... once he has established for himself that he is safe.

hi, was the cat already an adult when you got him? Was he from the street or abused before? He will need alot of time to get used to you. he is stressed and scared. let him have his space.

Try not to have any sudden or dramatic actions. No loud voices too. Be calm and gentle around him.

What I did to get close to cats is to buy their favourite treats, Then for the first few days, I throw the treats around a metre away. I will step back if they are not willing to go and sniff. After a few days when they are used to my presence, I will throw the treats nearer and nearer, until they eat from my hands. All this time, i won't talk or stare at them until they are familiar with me.

Bring him to vet to check health and see if hes deaf

Hope it helps. get some catnip toys too. Good luck
