I'm looking to buy a new car. Whats the best
i can get for $12000? Whats the most reliable, that can last a long time? I'm not looking for a huge car but not a tiny one either. I've been looking into the Toyota Yaris. Is it really small? Please give me some advice. Thanks

If I was you and because I am very environmental conscious, I will choose a used Toyota Prius Hybrid, you can find one for around $10k on ebay or doing some research., these can be converted so that they use only electricity (for around $8k) which will give you a good 100 miles per gallon. You gotta think of the environment man... Watch the following movies, hopefully the will motivate you to care for our planet: Who killed the electric car and the Al Gore movie "an inconvenient truth" Cheers mate

A certified pre-owned Toyota Corolla or possible a Yaris.

The Yaris is very small, but it does not feel cramped inside at all, it makes excellent use of it's interior space.

You might also look at the Honda Fit, though that is probably slightly out of your price range. When you add it all up, a Yaris sedan or Fit sedan are going to be closer to $14-15,000.

You could get a Yaris hatchback for $12k for sure though.

Don't make the mistake of buying anything other than a Toyota or a Honda if reliability and longevity are your top concerns honestly.

I would seriously consider a certified pre-owned Toyota Corolla, you'll get more for your money that way and you should be able to get closer to your $12k target without making too many sacrifices.

If you're determined to get a NEW car and you don't care so much about resale value then the Nissan Versa offers a lot for the money too, but I am not sure how much I would trust a Nissan in it's first model year especially. You could also consider the Hyundai Accent (quality has improved dramatically in the last 2-3 years) or even a Chevy Aveo (made in Korea) None of those will be up to Toyota/Honda levels of reliability and quality, but they may be close enough for you and they are more likely to fit into your $12,000 window.

Depends.... do you want new or used?

If new, your choices are pretty much limited to Korean makes, 2nd rate Japanese makers such as Suzuki and Mitsubishi and worse, America's Big 3.

I have seen Suzuki Forenzas for $9990 and Mitsubishi Lancers for similar price. Chevy Aveo is also under $12k.... but they are Korean built, formerly known as Daewoo Lanos.

You have far better choices with used.... 2002 Honda Accord.... 2002 Nissan Maxima.... 2001 Acura TL.... 2000 Lexus ES300.... 1999 Lexus RX300...etc. Check out Autotrader.com and search your price range.

THE YARIS IS AN EXELLENT CHOICE. VERY DEPENDABLE AND REASONABLY PRICED CAR. ALSO CHECK INTO THE TOYOTA COROLLA. TOYOTAS ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR DEPENDABILITY AND GO 200,000 MILES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.
