A carpet layer had just finished installing carpet for a lady. He stepped out for a smoke, only to realize he'd lost his cigarettes.
In the middle of the room, under the carpet, was a bump.
''No sense pulling up the entire floor for one pack of smokes,'' he said to himself. He proceeded to get out his hammer and flattened the hump.
As he was cleaning up, the lady came in. ''Here,'' she said, handling him his pack of cigarettes. ''I found them in the hallway.''
''Now,'' she said, ''if only I could find my parakeet.''

The tack strip along the edge can depend on the grade of carpet you get. If it's total junk then it's quite possible you may feel the teeth sticking up. Most carpet has a long enough nap to keep you from ever feeling the teeth but there are some with so little material that the teeth pop through. The other issue sounds like the carpet wasn't stretched correctly. They should be using power stretchers, big long pipes with claws on the end, to stretch the carpet in. If they are are using little knee kickers they are not good installers. Far too many installers will knee kick to save time. You are left dealing with wavy bubbled carpet within a year or two.
