Rather, when should they be forced?

Holland has no dole and *very* few single mothers.

what about the fathers that left these women? They should be forced to take those classes and learn how to stick around and deal with what you have done. Single mothers are brave to be doing this alone. There both the mother and the father. no easy task. Maybe you should take a class on how to respect and treat other people.

I am a single mother of four kids, and I work any where for 40-50 hous a week as a waitress mind you and I work my butt off, I think single mothers should be made to take classes and job training instead of sitting on their butts all day long and draw welfare I went to get help and they told me because i worked, I could only draw 26 dollars a month, and if I wanted more I would have to lessen my work load, Well I am proud to say no matter how hard I have to struggle some months I am welfare free and I would not trade my job for staying at home and drawing off the system like most think is a way of life, Get a job is the best thing possible.

Why are these moms "single"? Where is the father and why have you left him out of the picture all together? Whether it was a "mistake" (unplanned pregnancy) or divorce, BOTH parents should work together to raise the children. And BOTH parents should be "forced" to do this. Aren't the fathers of the children still parents as well? Why do you imply that they should have no role in bringing up their children and that it is the sole responsibility of the mother?

Yes I think so. If the government is helping them financially. They should have to learn how to be more responsible for their own lives. After all they're the ones that got themselves into the position they're in. Why should tax payers pay for their mistakes?? They need to suck it up and get some education and a job. Theres no excuse for them. Theres so much help for single mothers offered to them from the government. Some are just to lazy and want to feel sorry for themselves.

What about mothers who are single because their husband died? Or ran off with another woman? Or just ran off?
Assuming a woman is a single parent because she's irresponsible is moronic and narrow-minded. If you want to take measures like those you've suggested, each case has to assessed individually. There are brilliant single parents out there, male and female.
And just because a woman is married doesn't mean she's any better as a parent, either. That goes for the father as well. Every parent I personally know that I consider to be "bad" is married.

Perhaps not stopping the benefits. But having both parents assume responsibility plus take parenting classes would certainly be beneficial.

Shouldn't the fathers be "forced" to pay up and take responsibility so that single mothers don't have to be on "benefits"?

Not any more than 2-parent families or single fathers should. And classes will tell you a certain way to raise your children and not every way works for every child-from discipline to methods of praise and reward.

SINGLE MOMS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO THEIR CHILDREN, ONE OF WHICH IS TO RAISE THEM TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT. SINGLE MOM SHOULD BE GIVEN JOB TRAINING, HELP WITH CHILDCARE BUT NOT BE ON THE PUBLIC DOLE. PARENTING CLASSES ARE GOOD FOR EVERYONE TO TAKE!!!!!
