As a youth they were not that important, or so I thought as I believed I had all the wisdom in the world. But as I aged I came to realize what an important part they played in my life. My father died when I was 3 but even he played a huge part in my upbringing as I loved to hear stories about him. Now that I am a proud parent of my own I see that history has repeated itself and my boys while in their teens turned their backs from us but now as young men have come to realize as I did the importance we played in their lives also.

The older you get and your parents get it seems the more you realize how important they are to have in your life. After my wife lost her Dad to cancer, it made me realize how lucky I am to still have both my parents alive. It seems to work that way anyway, that it takes years of living this life on your own to realize how much your parents actually did for you growing up and how much they sacrifised so that we could have the things we wanted. I feel closer to my parents now than I have ever been. I guess the saying is true....you don't know what you've got til it's gone.

My parents are extremely important, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be alive. I'm only 18 and I live in New York City (Manhattan specifically) and if they disappeared, I'd be living in a box out on the street with deep depression.

The importance of parents cannot be over-emphasized because, without them, i will not be on the surface of this earth. Whether they are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, smallish or giant, caring or not-caring, loving or not-loving, etc. They should be honored and respected ALWAYS because THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT.

My mother is the most important person to me. She is 84 and I look after her. I try to be patient and show her love as she has done to me of the past 50 years. I only hope and pray that my children think and ddo the same for me when my time comes.
