I think there is nothing more dignified and wonderful than a respect for truth, rationality and wanting to know where we came from.

I believe (after a process of reasoning based on actual physical evidence and solid theories - NOT faith) that I share a common ancestor with all the other great apes about 15 million years ago, and one with all monkeys another few million years more.

Going back I share a common ancestor with all mammals, all vertebrates, all cellular based life!

I am related to every other living being on the planet. Is that not dignified?

*to the gentlemen who feels there is 'evidence' that we're made from the stuff of the land - if that were the case we'd be Silicon based life forms not carbon based. The idea that God made us of clay is a silly fairytale. The joy and awe of understanding reality is much better than the joy of ignorance and superstition.

I love that I share a commonality with all other life on the planet.
To me, that is noble and dignified.

I personally believe other species have much more dignity and nobility than we humans do.

Soil is a life-sustainer for many species on the planet, including us (farming anyone?) and I'd actually have no problem with that either, if it could be proven by some scientific means.

I do, however, have a problem with those who think that human beings are superior. That mindset breeds all kinds of disaster.

In your wonderous expression of 'being a living clump of dirt'... in the OT it is written that we ARE the Living Mud made by the Hands of the Lord, yada yada...

I did say Glorious Apes, did I not?

Glorious Apes with Serpents' Tongues.

Whether it is dignified or not, doesn't matter. So far there isn't evidence to convince me that we are related to a common ancestor... man and ape. But there is evidence that our bodies are made of the components of earth.

Seems kind of silly to me.

Apes are beautiful animals, and humans not nearly as dignified as they'd like to think.

Seems like humility might be a desirable trait.

That's a personal opinion. Regardless, it is fact. Not only that, but we share common ancestors with sponges and oak trees.

I think that's pretty amazing and it has no impact whatsoever on my dignity.

flesh and bone its all the same stuff
its a cosmic soup
calling it stardust may be a better choice
but we all come from the same stuff
when we die it changes again
we are just as much the dirt as any thing else
will be or has been so on so forth

I am not defined by my ancestors as such it does not affect my dignity. I am more than what my body is made of it does not affect my dignity.

It is my words and actions that affect my dignity. What my body is made of and who my ancestors are means nothing as far as dignity goes.

i have heard people 'disprove' evolution by saying there is no way thy are related to chimps. this is usually argued by arrogant and uneducated christians. they also do not understand what it is to share a common ancestor.
hearing this argument is one of the most frustrating things about dumb people.
