And yes, some people do believe in a 6,000 year old earth. It is quite sad how ignorance can escale to such heights.

The belief that the earth is only 6000 years old has come about because people have interpreted the creative 'days' mentioned in Genesis as literal 24 hour days, when in fact the original word translated 'day' actually only refers to a time period, not a literal day.

We can reason on that further by looking at what it says in Genesis 2:3 which says 'and god proceeded to bless the seventh day and make it sacred, because on it he HAS BEEN RESTING from all his work that god created for the purpose of making.' That was written by Moses around 1513 BCE, so obviously at that time we were still in the 'seventh day', so it could not have been a literal 24 hour period.

The bible does give a chronology for the amount of time that humans have existed (just over 6000 years) but it gives no exact time scales for how long it took to create the universe, earth and animal life.

Wierd, isn't it? We have found man-made bricks in ancient cities that are ten thousand years old. So, not only has humankind been around longer than that six thousand year figure, we've been using technology for longer than that! Personally, I think that people who say they believe the earth is only six thousand years old have talked themselves into a corner, and admitting they really don't believe that figure is just too much for their egos. They think such an admission will make them look stupid, so they confirm their stupidity via their denials.

Yeah, it is a view point based of the inaccurate of carbon dating and gaps in the evolution theory.

All the moon would not be at the same distance from the earth is the earth is billions of years old.

Yes, there really are people out there who think the world is only 6000 years old. I don't, because I can't find out for myself how old the world actually is. When you think about it, people believe all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Best not to even think about it. Good luck.

i do and its could be more or less but its around there somwhere because i use the flood to explain ceertain things in the world where secular scientists have to use other things to do this and no one has proven me wrong so im just going to keep going and anyone that says carbon 14 dating is proof of the earths age they tested a live elephants age and it turned out to be a coulple million years old so dont use carbon 14 dating as a rebuttle to my answer and anyone can email me if they have any arguements to my answer

Anthropology explains that the earth is billion of years already. It is costumary to state that the earth is 6000 years old in correlation with the Bible, counting in the birth of Christ. Hence the AD and BC we are using.

Why don't you take the time to study the Bible before you ask a question that shows you lack any basic knowledge in it. Try the JWs, they stress learning the details of the Bible and not just the Bible stories, mixed with mythology. You will than find that you can ask an intelligent question at least based on some rudimentary knowledge instead of what you may have heard some little kid say.

sheesh! you guys! 6000 years or 6000 million, seems to me everyone is totally missing the main point! what i want to know is just how long have we left on the original maufacturers warranty offering free replacement of parts due to defective workmanship, and, even more crucial still, is it mentioned in the small print whether we are covered for any damage caused by excessive global warming?
