Those who say no don't seem to have read the latest research both in the UK and USA. Cannabis use can cause mental illness, often in the form of periods of psychosis but also memory loss and early onset of dementia. Of course it does not happen to every one and just as you can find people that have smoked 20 cigarettes a day and live to 90 years so you will also find people who have used cannabis regularly and have no ill effects. But just as one smoker living to 90 does not make smoking safe so finding some one who has suffered no ill effects from smoking weed doesn't make it safe. Also the cannabis smoked today is much stronger that that in the past so some one who has smoked cannabis for 20 years will not have been smoking the same strength all that time. It also seems to particularly affect young people, those in the 16 -21 age bracket. In the UK admissions to psychiatric hospitals by patients with psychosis has increased and most of those admitted are cannabis users. Just ask yourself is it worth the risk?

Yes. The active ingredient of cannibis is THC delta 9. Prolonged use of this drug is known to cause psychosis such as schizophrenia. The missing component in this field of study is how this happens. Researchers have not yet found the physiology of this reaction, but one likely reason could be due to the deterioration of receptors in the brain that are stimulated by delta 9 THC.

not at all...i've never even seen a medical study that conclusively showed the marijuana use alone has any know negative effects on the human body. I know Harvard Medical School just completed a 30 year study on marijuana which pretty much said the same thing...
Edit:
Happyjump - I've not read one peer reviewed medical study that supports your statements. most of the research states that researches do not know if marijuana use in teens causes psychosis or if the teens use marijuana to relieve the stress brought on by psychosis. you would also take not in that any type of drug or chronic alcohol use in teens has been shown to have the same effect. they are also not sure if the individuals have a genetic predisposition for a variety of mental health problems. there is nothing conclusive so to say that marijuana use causes mental illness is not accurate...

I dont believe it causes mental illness, but a person rather close to me can be just about as dumb as a stump..forget what hes talking about mid-sentence, and well..just forget in general. And for a person who doesnt smoke it can be flippin annoying.
