I am an Atheist, and these guys amuse me. I usually tell them I am a sinner and a heathen and that I am going straight to hell, but that that is the way I like it. I like to see the reaction.

Seriously, telling them you're a believer messes with their heads far more. It's like being helpful to a policeman, they just don't know how to work it.

I remember being accosted once by one on westminster bridge asking if I'd found Jesus. I told him I had and suddenly he was completely thrown, so he resorted to "so, has he done anything for you lately?" to which I replied that he hadn't done much, which was apparently a sure sign that I didn't belive enough, something he was more than happy to tell me since it was something he could shout, which is territory he was far more comfortable with.

If everbody know jesus and follow His teaching the world would be a better place to live in, so don't stop them. If you know Jesus go out there and help them.

Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”..Matthew 28:19

I tell them that in fact I know Jesus very well indeed. He's a motorcycle mechanic form Denia in Spain. He fixed my bike for me when it blew up on the way to Gibraltar, and he put me and my girlfriend up for 2 days as we had to wait for parts! We've kept in touch since.

These preachers are quite vague! Which Jesus are they talking about? It's quite a common name in some parts of the world!

I ask them for the name of his grandfather!

Mathew 1:6-16 gives a genealogy, so does Luke 3:23-31. Both trace him back through Joseph, which is odd, as I didn't think he was supposed to be his dad! But about the only name the two lists have in common is 'Joseph'!! I ask them which of their two saints is lying!!!

Whislt they are blathering about that, I ask them what his last words were. Each of the gospels has a different answer, all are very specific that they were the last words he spoke, and they can not all be correct!

The usual response is just to assure me that Jesus loves me. That's nice, isn't it?

Did you hear about the guy in London who stood next to one of them outside the tube station in a devil costume handing out flyers? He had phrases such as "Sinners are Winners" and made the other guy go away pretty quick :)

Ask them if they are a born again christian? is Christ in you? if yes, then ask if they are still sinners? if yes, then ask them shall the lost lead the lost? I john 3-6/9 states that if one is still a sinner they do not know God. If anyone except "a babe in christ" tells you they are still a sinner they are not a christian. If anyone tells you they are an atheist, it is but a false act, for all know that the spirit of god dwells within their heart, though they may call it by another name.

I am a Christian but those street types are such that I am tempted to respond:
No, but I am sure you do not either, or he would tell you to stop being such a silly git, shut up, and find a real job instead of collecting donations and benefits!

What I say to people here in the states to such people is, "Yeah, I know Jesus, he's pretty cool. It's his bloody fan club that is the problem." Then walk away...

But then being a pagan...that's how I roll...

Why not just tell them you are an atheist and care not to become acquainted with their presentation of Jesus?
