When it comes out I was thinking about getting it but now I hear I shouldn't.

If you need programs OR devices to work in Vista, just use Application Compatibility Mode...works like a charm!!

Windows Vista is great!! I have been using since 2005 when in the first stages of Beta Testing (.NET Server/Longhorn) days.
I also have other machines which are more secure and are not connected physically to the internet to do internal work. In other words, keep important data secure

Yes there are bugs, and there always WILL be bugs. Security in software is very hard to secure. That is why many programs will not work in Vista. This is because the programs were not written properly. Vista will overhaul most company programmers because most programs will have to be re-written and most programmers don't know how to change unless they themselves have specialized training.

I would suggest to use Windows Vista. On a baseline level, Vista is more stable and secure than XP, has less updates to post-install, and is easier when you have many users..(Application Compatibility, Migration, Deploying, Maintaining)

This is just my opinion, but I would recommend that to be comfortable with something, you would need to understand it first and then use it regularly with caution until fully understood.

My Vista runs on a Laptop P4, 3.6GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, Twin (Yes, Two on a laptop!!) DL DVD-RW Burners, 2x80GB SCSI HDD, NVIDIA GeForce6800 256MB Video

You need a very very good machine to make use of the features that are worth having.

If you have a machine more than 12 months old you are probably best to get a whole new PC rather than load Vista onto it.

See the system requirements here

Well......... You should definiately get it if you have PC which is about a year old if not then consider these requirements
1.2.0 GHZ of processor speed.
2. 512MB or 1GB(preferable) RAM.
3. 40GB of free hard drive space.
4. 128mb video card.
If you meet these requirements then vista is for you but if you don't then stick to XP.
Vista is a resource hog in computers less than the above requirements.
Now its up to you that you want to buy it or not.

It is not bad, but it is hard to learn and it has a few rough edges. You might be better off to hold off buying Vista until the first Service Pack if you aren't a computer professional.

It's a resource hog. You need a very fast computer to run it properly. System requirements for running Vista smoothly are crazy.

It doesn't support many legacy devices. Microsoft supplies a program which will survey your computer for compatibility. I only need to junk 2 printers, a scanner, and my primary hard drive. They must be insane if they think I'm ditching new equipment because it is more than 6 months old.

To check how well Vista will run on your system, Microsoft has an application that you can download that will check your hardware and tell you how well it will run. Get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

I would give it some time to let them sort out the bugs, if they will and it is possible. It is usualy best to wait a few months for that to happen.
