Well i got good news for you Jesus said the way is hard and few are they that find it. He was refering to people like you who are going back and forth being blown by the wind. Never really gaining any understanding of the truth. We as christians are promised joy not happyness. There is a great difference between the two. So Chrisitianity makes you feel unhappy. But when you walk away from it you feel better. And you wonder if that is satan. Well here is your answer it indeed is. You can be a catholic a muslim a buddiest or a JW or a morman and you will feel great and be happy. But in the end you will be in hell for all times. So you are being beat up, by satan The lack of knowedge of Gods word is making you a easy target. We are not all equal there are the none christians who are not citzens in the kingdom of God. There are two types of citizen in the kingdom those with and those without knowedge. You appear to be in the ladder group. So when are you going to put on some knowedge. And kick Satans butt.

I'm no Christian, but since you are, you might see if you can find a different brand of it--a different church--that *doesn't* make you feel like an "uptight, unhappy basket case!" FWIW, the "Unity" church is about as open/liberal as a Christian church gets. If none of those feel right, then by all means keep looking! Perhaps an ecumenical church like the Unitarian Universalists would feel better. Or paganism. Or solitary study.
I *hate* this myth that the Devil is sneaking around trying to fool you, and am sorry you're being frightened by it. God (or Goddess, whatever you want to call him/her) gave us brains for a reason. And whoever quoted the Biblical line about "by their fruits, you shall know them?" Not a bad philosophy! Keep an eye on which groups do harm, whether it's through shunning others, through passing bigoted legislation, or whatever, and know you can avoid them. Good luck!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I went through something very similar to your experience when I began researching some things about the bible, Jesus, and christianity many years ago. Christianity had the same effect on me as it does you.
I learned some things in that search about Satan and his "origins" that may help you:
Satan is not viewed by the Jewish people as a fallen angel. He never was. According to Jewish belief, Satan is in God's employ.. he is the one who tests your faith, but he is not God's enemy in any way, shape or form.
The passage in Isaiah (14:12-17) that christians say is in reference to Satan is a mistranslation and false doctrine. This is jewish text, and should be understood from that view point. The translation of Halel to Lucifer is incorrect. Lucifer is a Latin word which means "light bearer". The word Halel is translated to "Day star", and this entire passage is about a babylonian king who tormented the jews during that timeframe. It has NOTHING to do with a "Fallen angel" of any sort.
Part of this doctrinal error comes from when the Greeks invaded Jerusalem at the time between the Testaments. The jews never had a concept of eternal torment, demons, etc... The Greeks, however, had a very strong concept of demons, angels, good vs. evil, and they imposed that upon the people that they conquered.
This is why you see such a huge disparity between the Old and New testaments in that regard. There are no demonic possessions mentioned in the Old Testament, and no eternal torment either. Yet, the New Testament is rife with them. There's a demon under every rock and in every other person.
In the Old testament, if you take away the mistranslated Isaiah passage, the only other place where you see a reference to Satan is in Job, and it is obvious that he is performing his function of the "tester" of Job's faith at God's behest. Notice also, that Satan walks among the "sons of God" as one of them.
Now, I cannot tell you whether Christianity is right for you or not. Only you can decide that for yourself. I strongly recommend that you do some research on the beliefs of the jewish people to understand the "old testament" because they were the ones who wrote it, and to check into the historical evidence of whether Jesus existed or not. Check into biblical translations to see why there are so many contradictions and errors, and look at the history of the Church.. how it came to be, and the effect it has had on people since its inception.
If you truly believe it is your path, then that's what's right for you. If not, then perhaps you should explore other faiths.. they are all just as valid.
Many blessings to you on your search,
Kallan

Left alone by themselves, there's little doubt that Adam and Eve discussed the same matters, and came to just about the same conclusion you have.
They were wrong, and we're still paying the price.
If you have problems understanding the practice of your Christian faith, it's only because you haven't yet discovered the freedom and peace of mind that God offers everyone who believes in him, and who comes to truly know him.
That's when the happiness really "kicks in".
It also seems as though you're attempting to mix-in concepts from other faiths, which is probably why you're so confused.
Make a serious effort to rediscover and clearly define the authentic Christian faith. Then hang in there and keep at it until it works for you.
Get some help if you need it, too.
Don't let yourself be deceived.

Basically, you seem to be asking which religious belief would be a better path to follow. You are right that no one can decide that for you. But you can YOU decide?
Should this decision really be based on what is comfortable or makes you feel better?
In the long run, won't you only truly be happy if you act in harmony with truth? And if the purpose of your religion is to worship God, isn't how GOD wants to be worshipped more important than how we want to worship him?
In line with that, if you are a Bible reader, this scripture may be useful: "God is a Spirit, and those worshipping him must worship with spirit and truth." (John 4:24)
Many people in the world today will try to get you to believe that there is no such thing as truth -- but there is. You see, there either is a Divine being, or there is not. When we die, we either cease to exist, or we go on existing. There either is a place of fiery torment, or there is no such place. Jesus was either the Son of God, or he was not.
I am not insinuating that either you or I should be intollerant of the beliefs of others. But we have to recognize that there can be only one truth. You can find it. And when you find it - that - is the path to follow.
Will it be easy? . . . . . . no. Will it be worth it? . . . . . . . . YES.
If you believe in God, pray to him directly and ask him to help you to find and know the truth - and be willing to accept it when it comes.
It is beautiful seeing someone earnestly searching for the right path. I hope your search proves to be rewarding.

Your words paint a portrait of your character that some can see, most cannot. I believe I can see you clearly. I see a young person with a pure heart. No malice or ill will do I detect. But your innocence means that you are vulnerable. You have fallen prey to wicked people hiding behind a cloth of apparent good deeds. It makes me so angry that there are those who exist in this world who seek to take you and make you one of theirs so that they will gain. The Devil you mention is no more than a concept of fear introduced to your young mind with the soul intention of taking your freedom with shackles of terror. It was introduced by the people who raised you and the people they in turn trusted to guide your development. On the surface, their intentions were good, but beneath the surface lies a rotten core. There burns a flame inside you that can never be quenched by the wickedness of those poor misguided fools around you. It's a flame that can start a fire that would grow to shake the foundations of this entire planet. But it's being smothered and trampled and though the embers will always be there, the layers of flame retardant material grow thicker and thicker. Please don't let them become too thick. For the good of humanity. People like you who posess the flame will be needed soon. Question what you are told. Examine it all closely and compare it with the logic that I know you have. Understand when your emotions are affecting your judgment. And above all, keep your heart pure and free from darkness.

This "devil" stuff is all in your head, if you don't believe me , I invite you to take this religiously-neutral challenge. Pick an activity that you do all the time and simply try not to do it for a period of two weeks. It has to be an activity whose exclusion from your life cannot be regarded as either a virtue or a vice by you or anyone else, like smoking, drinking, swearing and things of this nature can be viewed as being vices, so not doing it could be seen as being "morally correct". Pick something like not using the word "I" in a sentence or not raising your left hand above your waist. I guarantee you by the end of the first week, your mind will be screaming at you to do the forbidden action, and since the action is neither moral nor immoral, you'll know that it isn't the devil or god playing tricks on you.

Goodness, you are not alone! There are alot of things wrong with Christianity today, but with that said there is alot of things wrong with all religions... just because you believe in Jesus doesn't mean you have to follow everything that the church does or says... having a personal walk with Christ is what Christianity should be about.
The one thing you can't dispute is what the word of God says... many preachers, pastors, priests have changed it's wording to suit thier own needs individually or as a church whole... Jesus preached and taught , lectured about satan, and hell, and if he didn't exist, then why did Jesus perform miracles of casting out demons? Jesus says over and over again, " I tell you the truth"
it is far different from the truth we are seeking from evangelists or other personalities in the christian limelight today.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to pray and read God's word... Ask for the full armor of God... ( Ecclesiastes) again, if satan didn't exists, then why does paul mention putting on the armor of God...
Sounds like to me, you need to become grounded in the word... you sound very confused and at this point of your confusion, I am concerned that you will sway any which way the wind blows to appease your fears and doubts, and this isn't a good choice, it never is. Consult what the bible says and it will erase all fear and doubt... remember Jesus said " He did not give us the spirit of fear..." That comes from satan.
When you begin to draw closer to God, the Holy SPirit will guide and teach you and show you where you need to go, and what you need to learn... The more we read and study God's word, the wiser we become and with that girlfriend, stomps out the devils schemes!
Pray that God gives you the courage and confidence to seek out His word !
AMEN!

I don't believe in christianity. I believe in Jesus, that he is the son of the only God. I challenge that you are not a christian. You sound like the product of false teaching. You are talking about enlightenment and being a good person. No great thinker in the world has ever come to the conclusion that man is good. The bible has always taught us that. We are inherently not good people. We have broken God's laws (His commandments, which we will be judged by) and have offended Him. We have lied, stolen, coveted, etc. Even if you only did it once, you have broken the law, and you will stand before the judge one day. And we will all be found guilty. However, God has revealed His great love for us by offering us a way out of Hell (which is the punishment we deserve for breaking the law) by having the fine paid for by Himself. He humbled Himself by sending His son, living a perfect life, and pouring His wrath out on His son (the wrath that we deserve). Our fine is paid for, all we have to do is accept it.
Be sure of what you believe in. Actually, it doesn't matter what any of us believe in. What matters is what will happen. Could you be willing to jump off a building and say that you don't believe in gravity? No, you would be guilty of breaking the law of gravity and you would pay the price. We are all guilty of breaking the law of God and will pay the price unless we accept what was already given so we don't have to.
