I suffered the WORST of those...and I am sorry for you! But there is many factors to take into consideration.
Caffeine
PH of your body acid-alkaline (too many acid producing foods)
Your spine could be a little off, a Chiro and a diet (I recognized I was eating too many acidic foods),and some daily stretches helped me.
Have you had an MRI? I would ask the doc to get you into one due to the severity of some reasons your headaches are there.
Are you under alot of stress?
Need glasses?
Getting enough sleep?
Have you noticed these come after eating certain foods? (msg and preservatives cause those)
There is so MUCH doing this to you but start with all that!
Topomax works it just causes weight loss, get to a chiropractor I went through 10 different specialists and was skeptical at first, but honestly he helped the most!!!
I wish you luck!

If you've actually been diagnosed with having cluster headaches, and your doctor does nothing to help but give you pills I would consider getting a different doctor that will actually help you.
I don't have cluster headaches, but have had chronic headaches for the last three years or so, and what helps mostly for me is to sit in a dark, quiet room or sleep if I can.
Sex seems to help get rid of them too :p

US forces were heavily criticised for using cluster headaches in the gulf wars and in Iraq. One of the problems is that unexploded clusters can maim or kill.
Painkillers are effective for a conventional headache, but a cluster headache has so many small pains that cover a wide area, it is difficult for the painkiller to acurately target them all.
The only permanent solution is to find a headache disposal team. Lady Diana was strongly against land mines and cluster headaches and supported charities that helped local communities dispose of them.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

I knew a guy that the doctor thought was having cluster headaches. The doc gave him a med and said it should work within 20 minutes IF it's going to work. The guy couldn't talk and was moderately menatlly retarded, so he couldn't give his account. Anyway, ask your doctor about the med. We tried all sorts of things from a warm bath, dim light, head massage, etc. Only the med changed things.

After reading what everyone said, I have to agree with all of them, no one is the right answer, they all have something to contribute. That's is except for the smart a.. there's always one of them. No brains.

see a chiropractor ( something in your spine may be out of place ) and a nutritianist... you might be out of balance somewhere else... all doctors do is tell you to take 2 really expensive poisonous pills and see me in the morning, but you may want to get a cat scan just in case....

when you first feel them coming on take a few asprin, and ib profen. then lay down on your back and put a damp wash cloth on your forhead.. that should help out. you may want to try going to a ciropractor sometime here in the very near future as well.
