These are kind of odd things to use as your first criteria for comparison. The A620 tested about twice as good as most other point and shoot cameras for battery power. One would hope that the A640 is similar.

Both cameras seem to have the same high shutter speed.

The G7 is generally viewed as the "better" camera, but I don't know if that translates into superior results in the real world. It _does_ have image stabilization while the A640 does not.
