Yes, I was diagnosed with anxiety and did not opt for medicine. Yoga has helped imensely! Not only is the deep breathing very calming, but the poses release so much muscular stress. I do the Yoga for Surfers video because I like the beach scenes, but any calm video will work for you. Good luck, and remember, just do the poses the best you can, perfection will come with time, and doing them perfect isn't what yoga's about so don't beat yourself up about it. Enjoy :)

There are many forms of holistic therapies that can help you with your anxiety - yoga is one of them. You can obtain dvds and books from places such as WH Smiths, Waterstones or The Works (if you have one in your city). You could even attend a yoga session at your local community centre for as little as a few pounds. Yoga is a gently form of exercise which at the same time shows you how to breathe correctly. Having done yoga myself, it does not feel as though you are excercising because the postitions and movements are very slow. Yoga is a great therapy that will reduce anxiety and promote a feeling of well being and relaxation. Other therapies you may want to try and that I think would be of benefit to you include: aromatherapy, massage, reiki, meditation and reflexology

Nooka,
the best thing for anxiety is meditation, as it helps to focus the mind and relax the body.
I meditate a lot and I am a much relaxed person than I was 2 years ago. I also do yoga (Ashtanga) but that is more for bodily fitness and improving posture etc.
There are lots of guided meditation CD's out there, have a look at

Yes, yoga can help you relax--and there is good research backing this up. Is yoga very safe.... hmmm..... It's not as safe as people claim it is but it can be done safely. Some of the poses involve putting excessive stress and strain on the major joints, such as the knees, wrists, neck and lower back. Commonly taught known dangerous poses are the Upward Facing Dog (part of the Sun Salutation), the straight arm Cobra (however, there is a very safe version of this pose), the Shoulderstand and the Plough. Most of the more advanced poses require extreme flexibility, which is actually not healthy (causes joint damage: hypermobile joints). Since you are looking for stress management, you might consider looking for a Restorative Yoga class. This form of yoga uses props to help you feel comfortable in the yoga poses and is all about relaxation. IMHO, it is the safest form of yoga. Most yoga classes begin and end with a short meditation practice. I found that having a meditation practice also has helped me with stress management. All the major religions have meditation practices, and Buddhism has made meditation into a science. If you prefer a more secular approach (which is based on Insight Meditation), read Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD's books, especially _Full Catastrophe Living_ I've provided a link to his web site, where he has meditation tapes for sale. Although people automatically think of yoga and meditation for stress, there are a lot of other practices that can help. Many people who are under stress enjoy receiving massages and find that helps them relax. I find practicing a musical instrument to be stress relieving. I have friends who knit and who tell me that that hobby is very meditative. I have other friends who use cooking for stress relief. I have a psychologist friend who uses martial arts practice for stress management. I have a girlfriend who bellydances for exercise and stress management. There are as many ways to meditate, to manage stress as there are grains of sand on the beach.

Yoga can be a great addition to a healthy life style and it can take away a great deal of stress which can cause anxiety. If your anxiety gets to bad you may have to try another medication. Good luck with it, I too suffer anf I can tell you it can get better!

Always have vegetables on hands. Saute a big bag connected with frozen mixed vegetables in extra virgin olive oil and garlic. Add some red pepper or perhaps turmeric for additional flavor in addition to separate into portion-sized containers for that fridge.
