It seems that he wants something to pee *on* and so has a habit of peeing on the inside walls and corners of the covered litter box. It makes something of a mess. Suggestions?

Yes, he's already neutered. He's 3 years old. But I don't let him out to pee because he's an indoor cat.
I don't know. Is there some type of chemical I could wipe on that part of the litter box to make him not want to pee on it?

I agree with Monalynn, get a litter box with a top enclosure. You can also tape clear heavy plastic sheeting (sold in rolls at Wal-Mart, or at home improvement stores) under the box to catch over-spray (if he sprays out the front) and kicked litter. The plastic may need replacing at least twice a week, as some cats like the texture, and enjoy clawing it.
Every male cat I've ever had (neutered or not) urinated on the sides of the box; and it is usually the same location every time. Adjusting your behavior will be easier than changing his.
Good Luck!

I first could make confident your cat has been fixed. Male cats spray thier territory so as that they don't seem to be reaqlly peeing yet marking what's thiers. If he has no longer been nuetered then plewase do it. He could in no way give up spraying however while they initiate If he's fixed try this clutter Dr. Elsey's useful Cat "Cat attraction to" Cat clutter I surely have in no way had this difficulty yet i heard this clutter is nice for that. i found it on the internet. i could additionally possibly confine your male cat right into a small room for a whilst like a bathing room with all nutrition and water and clutter container and with a bit of luck he gets used to using it for peeing. It does sound to me however that he desires fixed.

Get a litterbox with an enclosure on top of it. I have one and it works great. (I have more than one cat and more than one male.) Walmart carries them. It's just a top with a "door" that sits on top of the box. This way if he does pee on the side, it'll just hit the box walls and not your walls or floors. It won't help with the smell, though, being it's on the side and not covered in the box, but it will help!
Good luck! :)

I've founded that if you put him in the litter box every few minutes he starts to release he master likes him being in that box and then he'll start to go in it more often.
