Oh a question dear to my heart. I've had 1965, 66, 67, 69 and 70 Mustangs. I've had convertibles, fastbacks, notchbacks. I've had them with the 289-2V, 289-4V, 351-W, 351-C, 390 and 428CJ.
The Mustang was the car that got Ford back into the game, built on a Falcon chassis but its own unique design.
They started in 1964 1/2, yup that's right. They had 6 cyl and 8 cyl engines working up to the Boss 429.
As you noted, the Shelby's and Bosses started off with a bsic Mustang and got modified. The Shaker hoods, the low rear deck spoiler, gobs of HP, the handling built into the Shelby's.
Ford lost it (in my opinion) when they went to the bigger Mustang in 1971-73 and it got worse in 1974. They hit a long bad streak, and only the new late model ones, 05 and 06 have captured the magic.
The Mustang was a great car, affordable, quick, nice handling and very nice looking. Find a classic, parts are readily available to restore it and see how many heads turn when you drive by.

I don't care for the fastbacks too much, but I love the others. My mother, too, used to have a 68 mustang. It was cherry red and had a hole rusted in the back that she covered with a piece of wood. I could see the road zooming past when she would drive me to school. LOL.

Heck yea!!!!

'67 is my year!!!! I was very excited when they came out with the 'beefed' up retro version of the Mustang, and I will be getting one this year. I would love to own an original and restore it, but....

I currently own three other Fords as well.

When I bought my '99 F150 New my Dad decided he was going to get a new truck also, he bought a Dodge...he has had nothing but problems since the day he bought it, his next vehicle will be a Ford!!
