Okay I'm probably gonna get some crazy remarks to this question....or maybe noone will answer at all.... :( But I am being serious. I know this girl that says she talks to fairies when she meditates. Sounds super odd to me, but just wondered if this is some sort of real practice. Okay thanks.

Well, I'm not sure if I can help, but I also "talk" to fairies. When I say "talk", what I think I really mean, is that for a moment, an hour, however long I meditate, I feel a certain connected-ness to nature and the nature of being. And due to a self-induced trance state, via music, chanting or other means, I am able to access something(s) that for lack of a better word, I call fairies. This has been occuring for me since childhood, and it's been in the last ten years that I've developed it intentionally. You should talk to your friend about the first time this happened? Was she frightened? curious? Did SHE fear she was "crazy"? If she is truly a psychotic, I doubt she'd stop and wonder "hey, am I a nutjob?"
My knowledge of Something Greater allows for me to believe that force has created a myriad of different creature archetypes for us to access and use to further our own spiritual growth. The important thing is to remember that all the fairies and elves are part of a grand design of Something Greater, and are not gods in and of themselves. And even the gods have to answer to someone, lol.
I often fear I'm a nutjob, so I guess take my advice with a grain of salt. Just please don't listen to those people who say she's into demons or satanic. The only truly "satanic" things are fear, ignorance and intolerance.

Allot of people practice faerie magic. Even if you don't believe in little people with wings. Think of faeries sort of like a representation of part of the essence of nature.
I love sitting in the woods meditating and communicating with the forest faeries and all.

I used to work as a security gaurd in a mental hospital in Germany. There was also a girl who claimed that she talked to fairies. Maybe you should take your friend for a check out... some times these kind of people can get really dangerous.

Wiccans, and other pagans, sometimes believe that you can communicate with other beings from the other realm. Faeries are a very prevalent in ancient pagan beliefs, especially those pagan religions of Celtic descent.

I did a faerie calling spell with my coven. We didn't actually speak to them. That is rare because they don't trust humans, but we did see them take our offering of fruit, Faeries have a childlike infectious laughter and we were giggly for the rest of the day, It brought some much needed cheer.
Everyone says that I must have been on drugs, but it would have been one massive hallucination. Considering the whole coven saw the same thing.

IT IS A RELIGIOUS PRACTICE
The Celtic belief does in fact believe in the presense of fairies (usually spelled Faeries in regards to Wicca). They are usually seen as mishievous and elemental figures. I, myself, am more attuned with the nature of elves.
It's no more odd than believing in angels though, if you really think about it.

I suppose you might, after all you read that book of fairy stories all the time.
If she thinks she is talking to someone while meditating, she is doing it wrong.
