Both had senates, both gave continuous raves about being under attack. Both sent armies and emessaries to threaten, punish and bribe(economic add-like the money Turkey knocked back instead of allowing usa military launching pads against Iraq)
Both adopted a fundermentalist Christian religion.
Both claimed to be civilized. Both thought they where simply the best, both killed|kill in the millions, both had\have the edge with military tec.
Both stripped\strip the enviroment for all they can make with no reguard for the future.
Whats the difference, dispite the P.R they both seem about the same model of the same ruthless war and economic machine.

Yes, absolutely !!! and Guess what, the animal that is used as a symbol for America is the Eagle. Same goes with the Romans, they also use the eagle as their symbol when they conquered jerusalem.

Okay as an objective American I will answer you. First I will repeat myself about objective, we are a big free country and we are many in number but I and not many like me control what you call an economice machine. Second I believe in capitalism because there is no other system unless you vant the new vorld orda ach tung! Now let us not forget order, without the organization that Rome built for us it would be dictatorship and tyranny all the way with monarchs all the way continuing their incest to breed more insane individuals like Henry the VIII, or what about Hitler? He started all that world order of destruction over money and military we just fell into it after the war by luck because if we didnt you and I would probably no be alive today. Russia and China were prepared after all the power struggles to take over Europe and America the world for that matter, and Russia has achieved alot since then in causing all these wars. Turk/Russia have been one for years, and they are not to be trusted at all. Look what Turkey does to its people, How barbaric they are, and look what Greece put up with? We need a Senate, and we need Congress and the House and a President and all the people too, we all wish we could have more of a say in things but as they say Rome wasnt built in a day so it will take some time for us to get rid of this administration and set some new game rules especially since we have a majority of congress as democrats. America did not cause any of those wars I or II or the other ones either, we cant help it we feel sorry for ignorant starving people that are being slaughtered, someone has to care and we do. Do you suggest we allow this to go on and turn our backs and let 11 million other people die at the hands of a tyrant?
May be you think that is okay? Or maybe just a certain type of people, well we do not we believe as a majority here that all mankind is G-D's children and good bad or indifferent, and we just sort them out. Someone has to do it objectively dont they?

This is nowhere near as fun as the Lincoln/Kennedy parallel.

You're right that all Empires need to learn from the mistakes of previous Empires. A lot of us Americans are trying, honestly. But not all the comparisons are bad. Rome was a technological marvel--most of the major highways in Britain follow the old Roman roads. As far as differences, Rome had the Pax Romanus, the idea that any citizen of Rome would be safe anywhere in the Roman Empire... I *wish* America had as much of that. And America is significantly more charitable to other countries--I mean financially, not always in attitude :-) We also really do have a better entertainment industry.

Neither America or Rome at its height adopted a fundamentalist Christian religion. In fact, I think Christianity was the great revenge by the jews that caused Rome to eventually fall! Imagine claiming that the meek are blessed.

Maybe America won't be far behind. Especially if it starts feeling guilt whenever it uses its power.

100 years ago people where comparing the British Empire to the Roman Empire. What is your point? Its a fact of history, nations rise then decline.

America [ the American/British Alliance plus others] is simply the continuation of the multi part "Immense image" described at Daniel 2;31.
The head of gold represents Babylonia from 607 B.C.E.
The arms and shoulders of silver are Medo-Persia from 539 B.C.E.
The body of copper is Greece from 331 B.C.E.
The legs of iron are Rome from 30 B.C.E.
The mixed iron and clay is the present confused and divided world political system.

Verse 35 says that all will be crushed.
Everything before the feet has been.
Only the feet [America/Britain] remain.
They will be blown away just like chaff.
That is Armageddon.
The end of government as we now know it.

All nations have had glorius points and rised, but at the end all fall - the one that rises the highest will fall the hardest - that is how the race of humans worked from the begining of time.

There are hundreds of empires that can be compared using your "criteria". Sounds like you are just doing some anti Roman and anti American barking.

You forgot to say that in both the barbarians attacked. In both the barbarians infiltrated the population and weakened their ideals and their society. In Rome, the barbarians eventually took over. The difference is that ain't gonna happen here!
