I was finally diagnosed with TMJ after ten or so years of jaw trouble. I am really mad because I lost my bite guard which is to expensive to replace right now. I used to get block shots up until recently because that is to expensive too. I need help because I bite my cheeks and tounge severely now and I am in constant pain. I can't talk, eat, yawn, or cough without awful pain. I am at my wits end. The dentist said my wisdom teeth are not to blame and are fully developed and not to bother taking them out but they are not exposed. Should I consider removing them from the bad side of my jaw? Painkillers help but after they wear off it is worse. Soft foods just don't cut it for me anymore. Has anyone had good results from surgery? blah. blah..

My dad had the surgery 10 years ago. It was the best thing he could have done. He has not had any pain since.

my TMJ problem was so bad several years ago that finally one day it locked on me and could only open my mouth a fingers width. I went to a great surgeon in Birmingham Ala and had outpatient surgery for it....no pain now at all.....sometimes will get tightness in that area IF I chew something tough.
It started popping about 5 years ago so went again and had to wear braces for just over 2 years..saved me reconstructive surgery....Dr Koslin was the greatest Maxofacial Surgeon and saved me years of pain.....Good Luck
