My puppy Ruby won't be quiet! She recently got brought home and she crys and yowls at night! We've tried the radio, ticking clocks, hot water bottles and all sorts of stuff! We'd like to bring her in but we can't! We have a cat that's agro and our other dog will get jealous. Any ideas??

Reassert yourself as the leader in the house. The cat will deal with it, and the puppy and your cat will probably just avoid each other. I have an aggro cat with a young dog too. the jealousy will happen anyway, and the best you can do is try these sites for some helpful information:

Hope this helps, BRING YOUR PUP IN, it will stop howling and crying as he or she wants to be part of the pack and doesn't know what it's done wrong to be alienated, give it it's own space and your other dog too. Crate training is the best thing for this. check out these sites for more info on it:

So this baby has been removed from its mother and any siblings it had, but you won't bring it in because you already have a cat and a dog who will be upset. Did you put ANY thought into what you were doing BEFORE you brought this innocent home? Dogs are pack animals, they need company. She is telling you that she is lonely and scared. When you say "bring her in", are you saying that you have stuck this baby outside in the middle of winter? What in the world is wrong with you people?

Give her back to the people you got her from, or find someone who actually wants to have a dog as a companion, to love and care for it as a part of the family. She deserves better than what she has with you.

How would you feel if you had been taken away from your Mother, the only thing you had ever known....you would be pretty upset.

Dogs are pack animals and need to be with their pack, packs also sleep together.

You are making serious errors by keeping the dog outside.

I'm not sure why you decided to bring home a puppy if it could not interact with your current dog or cat. Perhaps you need to re-think this and re-home the puppy or take it back to the breeder.

Dogs will not get jealous if they see you as the leader. I reccomend that you start researching on how to be the leader of your pack. I reccomend the book 'Dog Listener' from Jan Fennell.

Oh thats a tough one! Have you tried a soft toy for her to snuggle up to? What about your other dog? Can she go in with her/him? Howling is usually due to loneliness if she has another to be with maybe that will help. Also have you tried exhausting her before bedtime? Taking her for a walk etc? playing with her right before bedtime is not a good time, she will be to hyped up, but if you wear her out before bedtime this may help. Also maybe giving her something to chew on my take her mind off her loneliness and give her something else to focus on. Depending on the age of the pup, you can get a variety of different raw hides, and I think there is a range that made specifically for pups. Good Luck!

Why did you get the dog in the first place if you weren't ready for the responsibility? Obviously your house wasn't meant for a new dog to come join with your other dog and cat. Find her a home that will love and care for her properly. It will be easier to do it while she is young. If you really love this dog get a behaviorist that can help you fix these problems.

Uh. Are you kidding? If she is a baby, as I assume she is, then why do you think she's howling? Wouldn't you be howling if your parents left you outside all alone at night and you were a scared little baby?

Yes, do this poor puppy a favor and find her a home where she can be a pet not a yard ornament.

I forgot to mention we keep her safely put away in our warm dry garage. And what i meant by not being able to put her in our house is not putting her on carpeted areas. Sheesh I'm not that bad of an owner! I've had a dog for 6 years! I just want her to stop how;ling and we can't mix her with my other dog cause he get grumpy with her. Sorry if I confused you! My mistake I didn't word it right.

yes find a home for ruby. if you won't bring her in to live with your other pets then you should not have gotten her. find her a home while she's still a pup and cute and loveable and don't get another pet until you can treat it like your other pets. it's unfair to her, i'd throw a fit too if i were her.
