i just wondered the lenght of time before anyone can see a will of a member of family that has just deceased

There is no length of time. If you think a will exists and been probated, then you make a postal application to the Probate Office in York and pay your £5 like everybody else and in about six weeks time, the will, if it can be found, is sent to you. This might not work for really really recent wills within the last 12 months or so, but should work fine from about 2004 back to 1858. There's an online application form on the internet somewhere, but I can'f find it right now. Just google 'York Probate Office' or something and it should come up.

Contact the attorney that wrote the will for the deceased.

Wills, after probate, are filed in the County Clerk's office and become public record.

are you referring to the "last will and testament" of a deceased person (the executor)?

well, you should ask that from his/her hired estate administrator (usually, a lawyer). but this would be very hard to do, unless if you are one of the heirs.
