I also have a 9 yr old Black Lab, which the Westie sees go in and out of the dog door, so why after just coming back into the house after being outside, does she go to the bathroom inside the house? tHIS IS MAKING ME CRAZY...PLEASE OFFER SUGGESTIONS..

because she's a westie. sorry but true. she's a terror or terrier, and will do things to make you crazy. you should try crate training her, get her a crate and a potty schedule going. the crate should be no bigger than enough room for her to stand up, turn around and lay back down. when you let her out of her crate to potty usher her through the dog door so she gets the hint this is the exit to go potty. then follow her out, i don't reccomend you going through the dog door. :) and wait for her to finish going potty to praise her, if you praise her while she's doing it she will stop and come to you and potty later inside. as for her watching the lab, she's a terrier, she will watch him do stuff all day and then go do what she wants. westie's are fun but a lot of work.

I've heard that smaller breed dogs take much longer to potty train. I have two six month old Rottweiler-Pitbull mixes that are almost completely housebroken. What I do is leash them up, tell them let's go outside and potty, take them out, and repeat go potty. I take them out after they've napped, after they eat, and several times other than that. After awhile, they both go almost immediately after I give the go potty command.

Maybe your Westie doesn't understand that she's supposed to go outside to do her business. I would start with the leash thing, and after she has that down, introduce the dog door.

go outside with her, wait until she goes and praise her A LOT when she does it outside. If you catch her doing it inside, very quickly whisk her outside (the suprise factor usually makes them stop) and when she finishes praise her. If you don't catch her, just clean it up and ignore her.
