I'll tell you how my Dad got me to avoid alcohol. He sat me down when I was 16 and said, "I will say one word to you about alcohol, just one word, but you will remember this word for the rest of your life." I was obnoxious and said, "What? Accidents?" And he leaned real close and said, "Calories." He was right, every time I take a drink I think, "Wow, that's 150 calories just for the liquor, and probably another 300 for the mixer..." My sister says that instead of drinking alcohol, she enjoys desserts, so it worked on us both.
I think that they should show more pictures on TV of what smoking does to your skin, how it makes it yellow, how it causes little lines around your lips where you purse them, and then say, "This person you see is only 20 years old" so you know how smoking makes you look old and sad and ugly.

Just decide what you want for yourself. The people around you now will be gone soon but you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life. Do you like yourself? Do you wish good health and personal freedom for yourself. If you do wish all that is good to bring positive results to your life, then saying no to the negative things that sell yourself out should be easy. Think about it. The fact that you're asking this question tells me that you do care and want a good positive life experience for yourself.

The easiest way to prevent it, is to not do it. Or do you mean how to stay away from them? May sound corny, but just say no. Half the kids who say they're your friends, run when the cops come and they'll leave you high and dry before getting themselves in trouble.

If it's a restless feeling in your legs that you are talking about, I have that. I am on a prescription for it, the ailment is called restless leg syndrome. Tell the doctor about it. Lots of people are starting to get it. It's more common, now. Good Luck!
