My sony camera does the same thing. It actually does say in the instructions that alkline batteries may read as dead even though they are not. The battery meter is made for rechargables.I don't know why they can't make it for both and put it as an option, because I prefer to use alkaline.

Well the answer is sort of. A battery is a huge chemical reaction. As the chemical reaction progresses energy is produced. We in turn use this energy to power our electronics. If the chemical reaction is slower than the rate of energy consumption then the electronic device that is being power dies. Now when you you remove the battery from the object the chemical reaction gets to catch up to the demand and builds up another change(although this will last for a very short time). You can also "re-charge a battery by warming it up in your hands or a blow drier..BE WARNED YOU RISK AN EXPLOSION BY HEATING A BATTERY WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN YOUR HANDS. When you heat the battery you introduce a catalyst. but that's getting to complicated here is a web site on how a battery works I hope it helps.

No, it is just the power drain during use and spike once it has cooled - electricity can be a bit like water surges but no battery recharges itself -
Alks can't be safely recharged by any source
And recharges need a source.

No. It is the problem of the display of camera doesn't report the real status of the batteries. It is like how your car read your gas tank

unless its a rechargable batter that's plugged in, then no...it cant charge its self....its wierd, i know, but batteries will do that sometimes, i dont know if its like a static recharge after use or something but they do it sometimes.
