I am 15. Last year, I weight 198 pounds and was miserable. I am now 145 pounds after losing weight. I always have drank Diet Pop. But during the weight loss I took it and still am taking it, to extremes. I drink around a 12 pack of day on average. I love this stuff. I see these websites that say it's deadly, but they all seem so insane and alarmingly fake. Especially with that obviously fake "conference" e-mail that went around about a year ago. What do you think about aspartame?

Well it's a yes and no thing, actually. Yes, it can have very, very horrible effects on your body, but that is only a possibility and only IF you intake an amount that is simply unheard of. If you drink a few diet pops each day for several years, you'll have no ill effects most likely.

What we have to understand is that sugar companies are more than happy to go give a lab rat the equivilant of a human eating bricks of it several times a day and show ill effects to fling out their anti substitution propaganda.

In short, nothing is going to happen if you don't go completely ape crap and have a case daily while eating tons of sugar free candy and pouring sweetners down your throat for fun.

Did you know that you could actually have water toxicity if you drank enough (look it up). That having been said, the amount of aspartame that you would have to consume is almost impossible in order to get toxic from it. I do think a 12 pack a day is quite a bit though, and if you drank that much of a sugary soft drink you would certainly gain weight (that's about 2000 calories). Best scenario is to cut down on whatever you drink.

Not a hoax! i had become seriously ill after years of eating and drinking things with that poison in it. after i learned the truth i completely stopped buying anything with aspartame. Three months later i had lost 40lbs (no dieting or exercise), my diabetes vanished, i sleep better, no more aches and pain in my body, and all of the symptoms i was having went away. i have much more energy also. Im living proof aspartame is a slow poison.

Religion. Recent hoax: President Cheney's faked WMD. Also, the GOP's de-regulation scam. That lead directly to Pres Cheney's Near Depression of Dec '07 - June '09.

This is not a hoax. Some people really are sensitive to it. Aspartame can break down into formaldehyde and methanol (wood alcohol, not safe to drink).

There seems to be *NO* safe artificial sweeteners. Sacharin, aspartame, sucralose, etc., have all been known to cause side-effects or health problems, at least in a few people.

ok.. this is what i found out.. from a reliable source. what they say about aspartame is correct, but I personally know a research project engineer that they did the test ..he told me personal commuincation that yes it has those effects but you would have to eat a room full of it for ten years for it to affect you .. because humans are larger and it takes longer many years and huge amounts.. I was using spenda and stevia for awhile but when back to equal it taste better but as for the truth.. This guy would never lie and I wouldnt worry to much about it.I have another friend that is anti sweetners said use sugar.. I have gotten off of sugar so if i eat even one sweet it makes me deathly ill so you tell me whats better for you sugar or aspartame ..

I don't know how toxic it is, but I have heard that some / many people do have a bad reaction to it if they drink a lot of it. Mostly headaches and/or depression. Diet Rite Cola now uses Splenda .. which has no side affects at all. Also, Diet 7-Up .. sometimes uses Splenda .. it seems random. Good Luck ! :)

I've been studying aspartame. It can cause tumors and cancer in the long run if you drink a ton of it. Try water. I <3 water!!! 0 calories

No Hoax. Avoid all artificial sweeteners and also high fructose corn syrup. Do yourself a big favor and lay off all pop. The amount
of hydrogenated water alone in all the pop your drinking will decalsify your bones.
