Everyone gets treated with respect? Well, of course it doesn't work that way here ... if you find such a magical place please let me know.
I never spit on anyone coming back from Vietnam. I was born in the middle of that whole thing, so I can't tell you what they were thinking. I think it's horrible that our vets were treated that way.
Yes I know some Americans make generalizations about other groups of people based on the actions of a few. Please remember how wrong that is, and don't lump us all together the same way. Two wrongs do not make a right, didn't your momma teach you that?

I am proud of all our soldiers and veterans. I never spit on any one. My brother is a Viet Nam vet and they were treated badly. I do not spit on Mexicans either. It is nice to be treated with respect but some Mexicans dont treat this country with respect. That is the problem. The ones who come illegally have shown no respect for our laws and then scream for rights.

Many Americans were very much against the War in Viet Nam,there were many that marched in the streets and protested.Public opinion was even more against the war than people are against illegal aliens. They were angry and frustrated much like people are today. They couldn't get to the government officials so they took their displaced anger out on the poor soldiers coming home.It was wrong and a lot of people were irreversibly damaged by this displaced hate and anger.
My husband was a POW for 15 months, when he returned he was a physical and emotional shell. It took 3 years to get my sweet wonderful husband back to the man he was before the war.. All country's had this problem with the Viet Nam war not just the USA and it was not all the people that treated our returning military in this manner. You are taking things and actions out of context. The 60s were a volatile time in the USA we had many people that were demonstrating, not just against the war but for the civil rights of Americas black citizens.Go back a little farther in our history and you will see the hero's welcome that the returning World War 2 military received.
And like all over the world respect is objective, some earned, some given freely and some not deserved at all/Stop bashing the USA.Look to your own country.magnify and isolate its faults and history and I can guarantee you wont like what you see. I love this nation,I always have and right or wrong its my home.

It's a mix. It's like African-American or Japanese-American. You are one part one race and one part american, (being american doesn't mean necessarily being a legal citizen of the U.S. If both parents were born in Mexico, then the child is Mexican. A peach tree is still a peach tree whether its' planted in Texas or in China, right?) So to answer your question, when someone says they are Mexican-American, it means they are a mix of both nationalities. One parent is from Mexico and the other parent is American (in most cases, the other parent is Mexican-American as well). A slang, more technical term is chicano. BUT IT ONLY APPLIES TO MEXICANS, not puerto ricans, brazilians, columbians, etc. Just because they speak the same language doesn't mean they're the same country. (Britian isn't called America....)

We have many soldiers that should be honored, but we also cannot deny that there is a fair number of soldiers that do make Americans look bad. How can we pride ourself on the actions of those soldiers that promoted cruelty upon civilians? Did we have US troops that raped a girl and then killed her and her family? I'm sorry, but that's not something to celebrate. To compare troops to mexicans, really bad comparison. We treat each other with respect on our soil, but it seems all bets are off when on foreign soil. I'm not in any way saying spitting on troops, or anyone for that matter, is correct. Our troops work very hard, but then we do have our share of troops that make the US look bad. Back during the Vietnam war, I'm sure many people were furious with the deaths of innocent people, including children. Why is it okay to kill a child in the name of our country, but it's not okay when it's done simply as murder? Isn't the loss of a life in both cases the same? I don't support the war, but I do support the honorable troops fighting for us.

You must be a Vietnam vet. Americans were so angry & frustrated about the war that they took it out on the soldiers. Probably because they weren't getting anywhere with the politicians. Not all Americans felt this way but those who did made better news stories.
We have learned our lesson which is why, even if we don't agree with this war, we respect our soldiers & show this respect when they return.

Only 2 people deserved to be spit on for vietnam and their names are Jane Fonda and John Kerry (both liars). Though I am not advocating spitting on them. Jane has apologized... well...sort of.... and John is just nuts.
Our news media was lying to us and exadurating events. They are the reason the soldiers were so disrespected. They can't get away with that so much now. There are more checks and balances on them.

A mistake made by a great nation. Just like allowing too many illegal immigrants to enter the country.
Don't feel so bad ...Americans spit on everybody.
It's a Capitalistic lisp.

supporting a war and being proud of being american has nothing to do with each other. Just because you are proud of ur hertiage does that mean you must agree with everything your country does? Have you ever disagreed with any political issue about this country? Does disagreeing with something your country mean ur not proud of ur country? Of course i will not respect soldiers that went to a war i believe is wrong.
