There are many different possible weapons to use against zombies, with many different variables for each class of weapon.




In the way of guns, most people would think that the biggest, fastest weapon is the best. They are wrong. The only way to kill a zombie is to destroy the brain. Conservation of ammo is second only to survival, and you can survive with a slower weapon. If there was a best gun, it would probably be the semi-automatic rifle. Good range, and one bullet fired every time you pull the trigger. Fast, but not too fast.

As for a melee weapon, pretty much any sharp object or bludgeon can be used.

Bludgeons are heavier than bladed weapons, as they need the force to crush the skull. Things like sledgehammers and pipes are strong, but are too heavy for those on the move. Weapons like metal baseball bats are good for one or two fights, but start to bend after a while. One of the best bludgeons is the crowbar. Not only can you smash zombie skulls with it, you can also use it the way it was designed to be used.

Among bladed weapons, two of the best ones are the katana and the machete. The katana has good range, and is a strong weapon, but might be harder to find and be expensive. The machete is cheaper and much more common.

Melee weapons to avoid are power tools, like drills and chainsaws. Many people think they are the best weapons against zombies, but they're not. What happens when you run out of fuel? The weapon becomes about as useful as a hand held stereo. Carrying more fuel increases weight, and the chainsaw weighs about ten pounds already. Also the spinning teeth of a chainsaw can't tell the difference between zombie flesh and your flesh.

As zombies are not an act of God, (they are created by the virus "Solanum") disregard any and all thoughts of using a cross or holy water to kill the zombie. Although you can try praying to your God. I don't know if that will help or not.

Unless you can be 100 % sure you can control it, don't use fire. If it does get out of control, you could eaisily kill yourself as well as the zombies.

I thiink a layered defense is best, and the best defense is a good offense. So my recommendations for taking out zombies( This is for civilans and does not include curent military weapons such as planes, tanks, flamethrowers, etc:

Hand to hand.
A sharp axe, machete, saber, sword, to hack off limbs and heads.

Short range.
1911 in .45 ACP
12 ga. shotgun with 8 shot tube, loaded with buckshot.

Medium range.
M1A1 rifle. The .308 is good at poping them up to 800 meters or so. Topped with a nice 3x9 scope.

Of course to top this all off, get some buddies and get a crew cab 1 ton truck. Load everything on board. make wsure that the cattle guard is installed or better yet a snow blade to run over the zombies. A one ton truck has true stopping power. Install a row bar to tie your buddies into the truck bed so that they do not fly out and get killed by the zombies. Provide plenty of glass containers with rags for Molitov cocktails. Go driving around, running over, burning and shotgunning zombies to your hearts content.

Wow, are you all fearful of guns? Zombies are human beings, so the perfect device to kill a zombie with is the perfect device to kill someone with. Im assuming youre speaking about the perfect weapon you may easily get, so automatics are out. considering we are speaking close decision (in all likelihood), and a chance of many many objectives, youre going to desire something made for CQB variety engagements that could straight away take a bunch of zombies. You get hit by 5 zombies straight away, and your machete merely grew to change into right into a hunk of metallic not strong for something. Saiga 12 gauge shotgun, or a shorter-small/intermediate high quality rifle. Like an AR15, AK47, or between the numerous pistol high quality carbines.

Dobie Dust ! Sprinkle the Dobie Dust around where you want to stop a Zombie and it can not cross into that area. The Dobie Dust completes dis-orients the Zombie and renders them quite harmless. You may purchase Dobie Dust at your local Voodoo store. Or many of the 7/11s in the hood.
Warning ! DO NOT SNORT DOBIE DUST ! It will make you feel amorous towards the first Zombie you encounter.

Up close, sword or an axe, effective, simple, prevelant (at least the axe) and no ammunition required (besides calories.)

Otherwise an assualt rifle or pump action shotgun gets my vote. Shotgun especially due to cost and chance of multiple head shots with one well placed round.
An M134 7.26x51mm NATO Electric multi-barrel Chain Gun, the "mini-gun," with about 1,000,000 rounds of ammo on a tripod would be hard to argue with.

There are documented cases of "zombieism" and holy water is ineffective in real life. Fire does the job but takes time and a flaming zombie is more of a threat than a regular one

A Kimber Model 1911 chambered to the man-stopping 10mm. (not to be confussed with 9mm, they are a world apart) And maybe a short bladed katana for up-close; it dosen;t need ammo.

And a Tommy Gun in 45ACP.

I am one of the few people that think the Zombies one day will come and am plannning for it. If not the Zombies, then the Iranian, the Koreans or any other , they are all the same.

Well White, you really should have posted this question in the Mythology/Folklore section but...

Zombies, if they exist, may be the victims of a powerful neurotoxin administered by a Voodoo practitioner who wishes to enslave them. Adding plain old table salt to their diet is supposed to be the instant antidote. I'd try throwing salt at them. I'd save my silver bullets for something that moves quicker than a zombie because if the salt doesn't work, I think I can still outrun a zombie. LOL!
