what are some symptoms of depression? after my ex-fiancee called off our wedding, (about 2 weeks ago) i hardly eat, i cry all the time, and i stay in the house as much as possible. I do go out with my girlfriends, but not voluntarily. Could this be depression? What are some medicines to treat depression?

Thanks.

this is a really sore subject, so if you have anything mean to say, just dont say anything at all.

There are a lot of meds for depression. And this does NOT sound like the type of depression you need meds for.

there are 2 kinds of depression.

1) you're naturally depressed all the time for no apparent reason
2) you're depressed because of a death in the family/emotional issue, etc...

You have #2. Your ex'fiance just called off the most important day of your life. 2 weeks may seem like a long time, but some people take months, maybe even years to heal from that kind of emotional low.

That kind of depression is something you can work on. FORGET HIM. he isn't worth your tears, time, energy, love, etc.. Don't stop living your life because he isn't in it1 tHERE ARE PLENTY OF MEN OUT THERE!!!!!

You say its not voluntarily, but you're wrong, it is voluntarily. You can overcome it if you really try.

I mean, unless you were like that before he came into your life, there's no reason to be like that now that he's not. Just go back to the way things were before you met him.

And another thing, "no man is worth your tears, and once you find a man who is worth them, he won't make you cry"

As for the inconsiderate Answerer ahead of me, HAVE A HEART!!

Depression can happen at any time to any person. It's far more common than most of us realize. But as to what is *clinically* considered depression, usually the basic test for a psychologist or psychiatrist is that the various symptoms of depression have been going on for 6 or more weeks consecutively with no improvement.

Some of the symptoms you describe are associated with depression, as well as others like sleeplessness or other sleep disruptions, lethargy, no interest in previously enjoyable activities, sudden mood changes, and sudden weight loss or gain (there are several more--these are just some of the most prominent and common symptoms).

So, my advice to you is to not rush to judgment on your condition. Enduring such stress as you have in this situation would upset *anyone* and they would be expected to engage in the same behaviors. The question really is, will these things go away? Can you see a way to let the hurt pass? Give yourself more time to see if this is a chronic condition, and in the meantime, by all means visit with family, friends, clergy, and perhaps even a counselor to talk through your pain. After time, a counselor or doctor might suggest common anti-depressants like Zoloft, Cymbalta, or Wellbutrin, but ultimately those medications are only prescribed after careful evaluation of your condition, and even then, these pills will not completely heal you by themselves.

Best of luck--remember that you *will* have a better life one day, maybe better than the life you were headed toward previously. Oh, and those friends that force you to go out? Thank god for them--some people are not so lucky to have them.

the best thing to remember when you encounter obstacles in life, is firstly not to label yourself. Labelling yourself with depression only makes it worse for you. You are simply upset, and distraught and always remember there are better times ahead. It does hurt when someone does something to upset you, especially calling off something that would affect your whole life. so this isn't depression, that can be seem as too strong a word to use. you are just upset, and staying at home just means you want some isolation, and that does help to get your head around things. When a situation in live affects the heart, it can cause for you to be extremely upset. just look forward to the future. hope everything works out

Girl, if you're as depressed as i am, you seriously have something to worry about. ive been depressed for almost three years now, and i can tell you if you dont snap out of it, talk to someone about it soon, or take some meds for it, it can only get worse. dont let a called off wedding ruin your life. it may seem like the end of the road for your love life, but maybe your guy wasnt the right one. there's plenty of them out there, and if you give them a second chance, you could snag the right one next time...

hope you feel better...

sincerely,
a friend

Considering what your going through right now, I would expect you to be depressed. If you don't snap out of it soon on your own you really do need to see a doctor and talk about which medication would be best for you. Lexapro really helped with my post partum depression. Good Luck and just remember that it's his loss, not yours =)

sounds like you could be depressed , your gp will probably give you a 'pax ' type medicine (aropax, seropax) , maybe prozac or zoloft or similar or if there's anxiety there as well he may give you effexor (veneflaxine)
i wish you all the best from someone who's been there
