Your chilling at your house, watching "24", or "Desperate Housewives", or "Lost", or whatever it is you like... Anything, as long as it gets your mind off the everyday news of Russia (for example) accusing the U.S. of being part of an "axis of evil" and Bush a dictator.

Suddenly CNN shows that Russia has begun an invasion/attack into U.S. soil.
Bombs. Planes. Airstrikes. Battleships. Ground forces. EVERYTHING. Operation American Freedom begins.

Who will cooperate
-People glad that the Russians came to take charge.
-Americans who wanted to see Bush out of power.
-Citizens neutral to the socio-political workings who just wanna make it through this crisis.
-Neutral services who have a universal job to do, like doctors and stuff.

INSURGENTS, REBELS
-Emperor Bush's evil "Republican Guard": the Armed Forces
-People who LOVE Bush, loyal followers to the death
-People who HATE Bush, but don't want Russian intervention either.

This is for people who are a little hazy as to what exactly is the whole "ally"/ "insurgent" situation in Iraq.

Russia was just used as an example.

To answer anconia's question...

This "analogy" could help people understand by making them put themselves in the position of the citizens of an occupied country.

Many people don't quite understande the situation, and simply generalize through the formula
"insurgents = bad guys".

Is it true? Maybe.
But do most people even understand why? NO.
Because people need to UNDERSTAND a situation prior to passing out judgement.

you are as POLITICALLY INCORRECT AS ME .......... INSURGENTS ........ TERROISTS ........ depend on how you look at it ....... isn't it? we once hailed osama bin laden's al qaeda and the taliban "HEROES AND FREEDOM FIGHTERS" when they were fighting the soviet occupation .......... so why do we called these people fighting US OCCUPATION as "TERRORISTS"?

why are so many americans so heck eyed that they accept a MORON interpretations of DEMOCRACY? we like to be the good guy .......... BUT LOOK AT THE BLOODY MESS NOW ........ ARE WE THE GOOD GUYS? THE MAJORITY OF IRAQI WANT US OUT OF THEIR COUNTRY .......... DO WE INTEND TO MADE IRAQ THE 51ST STATES OF THE UNION AND LET THE SOLDIERS DIES FOR A CAUSE? IF NOT ........... GET THE HELL OUT

One mans insurgent is another mans freedom fighter. I mean its gotta take some real balls to fight against the US Armed Forces. See what people don't think about is the fact that China wants to be a super power and have the same kind of consumer economy as we do. But in order for them to do that they'll have to take us out first.
How will they take us out you ask? Well lets think about it for a second. They just bought a bunch of new special transport ships that can carry a division each, that's right a division and they have 16 of them. These ships can pull up right onto a beach like a landing craft the front drops down and out Marches an entire division, complete with tanks and aircraft, right on the beach. They have Nukes and EMPs and there is also speculation that they may have the new sonic-tectonic weapons that can cause small earthquakes.
So let say the Yellow Stone Caldera decides to erupt or maybe they do have the tectonic weapons and they help it along a little. In the chaos of the eruption and ash fall disaster they nuke the east coast and hit the west coast and our missile fields with an EMP. Then they pull those ships up on Venice beach get out and start killing everything in site. So your scenario isn't far off all you had wrong is that it won't be Russia it will be China that invades us.

This is a rather poor analogy.

First off - nobody will be fighting for 'emperor Bush.' People will be fighting to preserve the Constitution of the United States.

And the people who under your scenario who will cooperate because they are glad to see a lawfully-elected politician out of power have declared that they care nothing for the US Constitution and simply want to impose their political views on the rest of us through the use of force.

BTW - something I notice about your scenario is that the American people are not given the choice as to who their leadership and system of government will be.

History does repeat itself, unfortunately. We've surpassed Rome, the longest ruling democracy in history, but the signs of self-destruction are everywhere. Like a cancer eating away at itself, our government is showing signs of infraction. The question is....can it heal itself? The war in Iraq has drained us more than most want to admit. I think I know what you are trying to get across, but unfortunately you have missed a few important factors in your list of things.

1. There were many Iraqis who were aware of the situation prior to the U.S. invasion. Many chose to stay and, perhaps, some believed it would never happen. (Kind of like some Americans I know.) Some who did not leave, most likely, had no t.v. or lived further on the outskirts of the city. The poor are the ones most at risk.

2. Those who had cars and money would be able to get out first and fast. Here in the U.S., even the rich can be in category 1. ignorant in the belief they will not be harmed in their ivory towers.

3. Americans have more resilience and fortitude than you fail to give them credit for. The right to bear arms is still part of the constitution, thank God, and millions of Americans own them. It sure would be interesting to see what would happen on a full scale level of invasion in this country. My new son-in-law's family all hunt and the weaponry on one wall alone would make you sit up and take notice...all legal to anyone out there paranoid or curious.

I recall driving through L.A. with my family after the Watts Riots...trust me, it was bad. My uncle had to fire three rounds at 3-4 African-Americans (not the politically correct phrase at that time) to protect his family. They were on his front lawn carrying a pipe, baseball bat, broken glass bottle, chain, etc. War is war....doesn't have to come with tanks blazing. Although, if my memory serves me, the Air National Guard, Armed Forces, tanks and other forces were brought in to stop the destruction and violence. Martial law was imposed and enforced for weeks.

The point I am trying to make is that inspite of all the

(Yahoo just sent me back to login and lost a lot of my writing...please bear with their stupidity and programming).

Inspite of all this, Americans were able to rebuild the city which is, by coincidence, the same size as Baghdad. See site:

http://www.********.com/citysize/baghdad_la.html

I believe the city was more populated at the time than Baghdad.

As far as a surprise attack, and knowing how resilient and strong Americans are, at least the ones I know who are not relying on the government to come save them....the independents and backbone of our country....the ones sometimes looked down upon and called backwards, rednecks, woodsmen and the list goes on, will be the ones who will be prepared because, like myself, they are prepared for the unprepardeness of life. It's the people who have become lacksidaisical in their living and acquired that false sense of security that's been bred into our lives via advertisement, government and other societal brainwashing that will most likely fall in a seige. What's that saying? Oh yes, "Ignorance is bliss."

Good point.

I think the most important thing to be learned from this example is that there is a portion of the insurgents that may not agree or dissagree with either side, but rather will fight any foreign invasion.

No. There might want to be sufficient troops contained in america to be able to cycle out and in of Iraq. There nevertheless also must be sufficient of a protection stress presence contained in america to fend of a achievable conflict on US soil if it were to go back to that.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of Americans who think that everyone in the world marches around chanting 'god bless America' and the only reason America isn't popular is because of a handfull of leaders.

Also unfrotunate is that America foriegn policy is based on that idea.

Occupations are doomed to failure from inception.

There is only one course for The US to take:

End the illegal occupation in Iraq!

BRING ALL OF OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!
