Take a deep breath, keep my mouth shut and walk away from the situation so I don't say something I will later regret. Once I've gotten control of my initial anger, I will confront the person who's made me mad calmly and address the situation.
I've found that dealing with it head on diffuses it and makes me feel more in control of the things that annoy me the most.

I choose to deal with the issue that is making me angry. Is it justified, am I overreacting, or has someone used me to vent. I don't listen to excuses like:
Anger is never justified.
He who angers you controls you.
Both of those statements are lacking common sense and suggest - in a manipulative way - you not stand your ground or examine the reality of the situation. It's beyond me how the recommendation of "keeping your cool" today includes beating on things and running away which has later resulted in beating on parents, spouses, children, and elderly after one is bored with a pillow. It has also resulted in children running away from the responsibility of following rules ie runaways..after all run when your angry because you can't control your caregiver by raging because you've been told no. Do people not get running and beating suggests the continuation of anger and irresponsibility? Those actions are the equivalent of throwing a fit and after all of that wasted energy the problem continues to remain and still needs to be dealt with.
Angry children? Of course children get angry, those with empathy know they are still learning...they enter into this world crying and quicker then some choose to admit, spend most of their time testing those who are caring for them until they are taught any different. If children are throwing fits because they aren't getting their way, no matter what the child thinks of the caregiver, the child needs to be dealt with. This also arouses anger in a caregiver and it should because the opposite of that is - I don't give a rip if I teach the child right from wrong...according to the Bible that is spoiling and void of love on the parents/caregivers part. According to history that is forcing a child to stay a child for the rest of their life. Just think ....this is the garbage preached in secular society today and children are listening as well. I wonder what it is like to be a child listening to this ...maybe it provokes confusion and anger in them.

I take a long walk. Something more than an hour. Up a few hills is good. Best at morning or twilight. I have to work out the problem, or at least figure out why it is a problem, during that walk. Or I might write in a journal, call a friend, eat some ice cream.

I knit with metal knitting needles.
Kickboxing works. Drawing works.
I find that writing goes too slowly to really let anything out.
Do something artsy. Go to paint-a-plate and make something.

Direct my attention to resolving the problem. Or if that isn't possible I try to direct it into other activites to burn it off, or at least take the edge off.
