vaginal birth is preferable to me because of lower risks for example bleeding and infection. recovery time with a vaginal is minimal compared to a c/s. The only benifit of a c/s is the forgoing of the labor.

Well, I have had 3 c-sections. I would have liked a vaginal birth, but my body had other plans. If you can go naturally, i would say go for it!! As another answer pointed out, most of the time, after a c-section, it is impossible to have a vaginal birth, and potentially deadly. The point of the incision weakens the uterus and it could rupture with contractions and poison the body. Which is called toxoplasmosis. As a c-section does avoid the labor part, healing time is anywhere from 3-6 weeks!! Also, if you are a heavier woman (like myself), the risk of infection is great!! Also, a c-section is alot quicker and less work for the mother, but after a vaginal birth, you can get up and walk around. Not with a c-section! Hospital stay is also greater! Vaginal birth is 24-36 hours, after a c-section it is 3-5 days. Also a c-section involves quite a bit of narcotic pain killers. If you are breastfeeding, the drugs may pass through your breastmilk. I hope I have answered your question.

I have had 2 c-sections already. The first was extreamly painful but the second was perfect. no pain at all! I had to have c-sections because of breech babies but both times planned for a natural vaginal. I am preg again and honestly the tought of a vaginal birth scares the crap out of me. Just the thought of it all. Of course during labor all u want is the baby out and the fears go away because the pain out weighs the fears big time. I most likely will have to do another c-sec but I think it would be kool to try a vaginal even though im freeked out about it. Just the experience of it all. I do feel in a way that I have missed the joy of actual labor to bring my babies into the world. Either way I am thankful they are healthy and I am too. I just think unless it is a medical reason for u to get a c-section, do it vaginally. I dont know, but im sure the joy of family around watching the miricle of the baby coming out and the effort u gave to push the baby out will be awesome. Good luck and God Bless everyone having kids and Great Job moms who have delivered..... wether c-sec or vaginally. U all did GREAT!!!!

It really depends on the situation. If there were something going wrong with the baby and its health or life were in jeopardy.Or if something were wrong with my health causing the baby's health and jeopardy I'd say C-section all the way...They don't recommend that a woman have a vaginal birth after she's had a C-section.So I think alot of women request vaginal so they can have THE experience...
However I only have 1 child and I had a vaginal birth.I'm lucky to have a high pain tolerance because she was 9 lbs and 3 oz biggggg girl. But it was an experience that you shouldn't walk away from if you don't have to.It's almost like a woman's passage of rights into the world of motherhood. And what would life be if you couldn't remind your children through guilt trips the ordeal you went through bringing them into the world lol? As silly as it might seem I look forward to telling my daughter when she smarts off to me as a teenager that I was in labor with her for 27 straight hours without meds and all natural to push her big head and 9 lbs 3oz 21.5 in long self out.All without food in that whole time period giggling.I know its silly but you gotta hold onto the small things like that gives a person summin to look forward to hehehehe...I'd also like to mention that I was lucky I had no problems nor did she and because of those factors I had the choice and took the choice of vaginal birth.Alot of women go into labor hoping to have a vaginal birth and end up doing a c-section because they had the choice taken from them due to emrgency issues.I am sorry to those of you that went through such circumstances...
Blessed Be,
M.Gard

I have had 2 C/S and so successful. I did not plan to have a c/s in my first pregnancy but bcoz baby was not descending nicely and she was big making it difficult for the head pass through the canal. I have been so lucky that i did not have any problems. I only had another baby last August 2006 though C/S and i was able to walk and sit the second day. Though you cant escape the pain part of it, healing has been so tremendous that people could not believe it when told i had a C/S. I think the reason was drinking lots and lots of water like nothing else. I drink about 5litres of pure water a day for the first 2 weeks and after that i am done. I dont have regrets whatsoever and i wish you all the best in your choice.

I personally feel that vaginal was WAY easier then any c-section could be. i never had a c-section though. i guess people think it is easier because you get cut and they pull the baby out rather then having to push it out. but with drugs these days you don't have to feel it being pushed out either. I think Vaginal is easier, you don't have to feel it if you don't want to, and you heal alot faster, and it leaves your options open, i've heard of women who had to get a c-section for all their babies because they did it the first time.

My name is Erika.. I've had both. Vag birth people hate on c-section people bc they're jealous or haters. FACTS: ..C-sections are a breeze ..You can find docs who'll do them, & know how to bill insurance so it'll be covered, even on the first birth! Just look hard enough for the right dr. ..Vag birth DESTROYS your lady parts, & it's uncivilized. Think cave woman days. (also..just bc the body ”can” do something, doesn't mean it should... Way too many medical advancements these days.. It's the 21st century, people.) ..Sections have risks, but not like the bad stories mentioned above. I feel sorry for those when & their unusual circumstances. The procedure is normally a breeze, esp if scheduled..(As it should be!) Cheers.

I have one child and I had her via C-Section. She wasn't decending down the birth canal because she was turned the wrong way (and I think the nurses were tired of hearing me screaming after turning off my epidural). I was glad to have her out of me, but I want to aviod a c-section if at all possible with the next child. It took so long for me to heal and I thought all of my insides were going to fall out the first couple of days. I couldn't even wash myself and it was hard to just get up to go to the bathroom!!! You are also in the Hosital longer, and that sucked too!!! So the next child I will try to have regularly.

I don't think either one is easier, I had a vaginal birth, and I know someone who had a C section, and she said you can't laugh or sit up straight for months.

yeah, you dont have to wait through hours and hours of oh so painful birth if you get a section, instead you get to put up with pain for several days to weeks. hmmm i see a great trade off here. hours vs days or wks.
vaginal is safer, less risk of infection for one, you heal faster, and its better for the baby. the way the baby is squeezed in the birth canal actually helps to clear their lungs better.
the risk of uterine rupture in a VBAC is very small. you are most at risk being induced with misopristal(a drug also used in abortions). oh yeah and toxoplasmosis is not from csections rupturing, its an infection you get from cat feces.
food for thought 90% of all c sections are due not to mothers inability to birth, but from docs interfering.
