I used to be TERRIFIED of the Dentist! Ever since I was a child I hated going. Twice I fainted in the chair before the Dentist even did anything! As an adult I avoided going for 4 years, but eventualloy had to go because I was having such bad tooth pain. I needed so much work done that I had 12 appointments in a row over a couple month span. They had to give me laughing gas for the first few appointments, so I would relax, but then I realized it wasn't as bad as I thought. Now I am totally relaxed at the dentist, I practically fall asleep while they work on me. I guess it was having to go so often that broke me of my fear.

I am petrified of dentists, & had not been for 23 years. I put up with excruciating pain for 12 months, a packet of panadol a day. My husband recently dragged me to the dentist, & turns out I had an abcess on my tooth. The dentist had to do a root canal, & due to the pus in my tooth, the local anaesetic did not fully work. The procedure was cruel, but the pain dissappeared soon afterwards. I now have to have 17 fillings, & am still terrified, but on the upside, my dentist is lovely. I can't afford to do it all now, so I am going to spread it out over the next year.

If you stay afraid, you gonna end up with dentures. It is not a pleasant experience but necessary. Now days it should be pain free.Ask around for a gentle experienced and patient dentist.Over the years i worked with a lot of dentists.Women are more patient than male dentists.Just start with cleaning and check-up.Slowly move on to other things, like small fillings and so on.Get over your fears. After all their job is as difficult as hell.

Yes..morbidly afraid..when I hear the drill I go into palpitations..
Grin!!!
Many people are like that, and the dentist does know how to handle it..so let him...
My dentist used to sit me in the kids chair and show me trains and moving toys..Grin!!!
It helped... You are quite normal
