I have a herniated disk. What positions can I try to sleep in so that my back won't hurt so much in the mornings?

It is hard to give advice since you did not mention where the disk is located but here is some random advice.

Sleeping on your back is best for your back. But having back and neck pain myself I know that this is often not possible. But try to when and if you can.

Putting a pillow between your knees when sleeping on your side or under your legs when sleeping on your back helps take pressure off the back.

If your neck is the problem try rolling a towl and putting it under neck for added support.

When sleeping is difficult to keep a position because you start in one way and throughout the night you move. When you sleep on your back try putting a pillow under your knees, this will relieve any pressure in your back. For your neck try not to use many pillows because you dont want your head lifted you want your head and spine in some way straight, have either in pillow or roll a towel and put it under your neck.
If laying on your side, try to get a body pillow (put it between your legs) to put your top leg over it, taking pressure away from the leg that on the bottom.
This is a site where you can view the position i was mentioning here.
Hope you feel better
Good luck ^i^♥

Like yourself, I also suffer with severe back problems and have trouble finding a comfortable position to sleep in.
I find that if I sleep on my back, my breathing becomes laboured because of the pain associated with this.
Sleeping on my side gives me the greatest relief. I place a small pillow between my knees and also have a rolled pillow which I made myself (I didn't want too much height on it and I wanted extra length) which I place behind my back for support. I find that this does help to some extent. And, as you know, any relief is better than none.
I hope this helps some and you do find a position that is comfortable for yourself.
