I find the concept of spirit free from the bonds of oppression from some superior a much more appealing idea than the commonly accepted god-created spirit. I don't like the idea of a god who plays the witness, judge, and jury after this spirit is done inhabiting a body for the fate of this 'spirit', when it is the human mind the spirit was inhabiting that gathers evidence, and makes a decision.

Personally, I would rather cease to exist and live in this eternal freedom than serve some god for eternity, who just happens to exist as some all-powerful being for no reason or cause.

opinions?

eh.. agreed. somewhat... but if you are not currently serving this god, and can achieve this spiritual freedom... maybe somewhat liek Buddha's Enlightenment... than why cease to exist? I agree.. i don't like how this random 'being' can judge us and decide what is right for us.... but i think we can find spiritual peace if we work towards it. I think spirituality is kind of... havinf a 'free spirit', where you are content with yourself and your being or state of mind.......hmmm... i need to put more thought to this... but there you go.

To answer your original question... i think the whole "dicatatorship' thing came into play however long ago when scholars or societies realized we need somebody to believe in. somebody to keep us on 'track'... "Morality" i guess. to give laws for what is right and wrong, and a way to enforce them. Except i disagreee that morality comes from a god. I believe it comes from the way you are raised, and instinct. what goes on around you.

I understand what you're saying, and you do have the right to believe whatever you want to, but human reason leads the mind to find a greater power. A world and universe with such complexities as ours is something that is very unlikely to occur randomly as big-bang theorists would like to believe. A much more likely explanation is that there is a higher and more intelligent entity that is responsible for everything, including us.

Deity religions are based essentially on the sun and the unpredictable effects of nature. The sun brought light and life to the world. Without it, they had only darkness. Without it, plants die. People felt they needed an explanation for why the crops failed. They thought they must have made something powerful very angry. You can imagine how religions with a deity evolved from these simple concepts.

I think God is omnipresent - everywhere all of the time, all at once.

I think that God made us in his own image - ie. our emotions and intellect resemble God's - in a VERY limited way.

I believe that God is all-merciful, ever faithful, the Compassionate. I think His judgments are more fair than we could ever imagine.

I don't understand your comments on God 'inhabiting a body ....'.

Peace

It really doesn't matter what you think is more appealing or what you would like to be the truth the facts are the facts. So look into the truth and go from there other wise you are heading towards your wish of being apart from God and I have a feeling you wont like it much!

Well Cookie monster!
you are living on Gods truff.
You can't be your own god?

Its funny how people feel they have the right...to be free of God....yet! GOD made all we are and all we see....so ALL belongs to him.

You may not like it but it's true anyway you look at it. Does your belief has support? Can it be proven fact historically and scientifically? Besides, God is love why fear Him?
