Lemme guess, you're a Moslem, right?

Jesus Christ absolved the Christians from circumcision and the ban on eating a lot of things that are mentioned there by teaching them how to do things correctly.

Pork, prepared correctly, is harmless and quite nutritous!!!!

Keeping the penis clean by pulling back the foreskin negates the need to circumcize!!!!

But then, that's a difficult thing for you guys to do, now, ain't it????

I am a christian and I don't eat pork; you're right it does have diseases and filth; they're scavengers like the Bible says. I don't know why people want to harm their body with this stuff. (hearsay-SDA's did an examination of ham; they got it out of a cafeteria and put it underneath a microscope and found 4 worms in it.)
The Bible tells us in so many passages that pork and other unclean meats are abominable to God; I guess people don't know what abominable means.
Bible Health Laws (Are they relevant today?)
http://www.lcg.org/search/search.php?query=health+laws&%24results_per_page=10&search=1
** TEXTS THAT INVOLVE THE CLEAN AND UNCLEAN MEATS:
GEN.18:7-8; LEV.11; 20:25; DEUT.14; ISAIAH 66:17; EZEK.22:26; DAN.1:8; MATT.3:4; LUKE 24:41-43; ACTS 10:10-14; 1COR.3:16-17; 9:27; 2COR.6:17; AND REV.21:8.

----IF THE CLEAN AND UNCLEAN MEATS WEREN'T VALID FOR TODAY; THEN WHY OH WHY WOULD THE LORD PLEAD WITH FLESH NOT TO EAT UNCLEAN MEAT--(ISAIAH 66:15-17). ALSO NOTICE DEUT.14:4 "SHALT NOT EAT ANY ABOMINABLE THING" AND REV.21:8 "...THE ABOMINABLE SHALL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE WHICH BURNETH WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE: WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH."

Is shrimp or pork bad to eat?
First of all they are scavengers. If you go back in the Old Testament; God distinguished what foods we should eat and which one's we shouldn't. Some groups don't because it's an abomination to eat anything unclean. Isn't our body the temple of God as stated in 1Cor.3:18-19? We supposed to take care of our body and be in good health (3John 1:2).
Shrimp are made to eat the garbage under the sea floor; they carry diseases too. The pig is a scavenger too; it eats the slop on the earth. You really want tricinosis and diseases and things in your body, people?

If you want to know other reasons why people shouldn't eat shrimp, pork or any other scavengers; take a look at these sites:

I think because the bible was written by men when mankind needed some guiding principles and protection. Back then there wasn't some of the modern cleaning and cooking techniques that exist today that eliminate some of the diseases you speak of. The best way to protect against it is to forbid it. The second portion of your question though I'm not sure was in the bible, the part about hypertension and heart attack. Plus, are you sure that a Pig is shameless? It can be afraid, it can feel pain, perhaps joy, can it be ashamed? Can chickens be ashamed? Can Cows? I know I've seen my dog express shame. What about other animals.

KNOWBIBLE has it pretty close. Here though is my hit on this, because I am a Messianic believer (Jewish-Christian) having been a believer for 38+ years and then discovering my Jewish heritage some 13 years ago. Christians have written a hobby on the illustration of Peter and frankly miss the boat. His vision was to illustrate something entirely different, but that is not where I place the emphasis on my argument against eating non-kosher foods. The Apostle Paul specifically said that ALL scripture is . . .profitable for doctrine, correction and instruction . . . Jesus paid the penalty for violating essentially the Ten Commandments, though the 617 mitzvot (duties), which Jews recognize by looking at their prayer shawls, rest upon the Decalogue. We can say truthfully that Christians may choose to not adhere to the Old Testament teachings, however Christ's death on the cross only paid for the penalty for not being obedient to the law it does nothing to mitigate the physical consequences, especially with respect to eating foods which G-d forbade. It ought to be noted, that in a book on eating according to blood type (life is in the blood) Pork and Shellfish were found to not be healthful regardless of blood type. Go figure. It was Billy Graham, who, in Dallas, TX in 1972, who told us that the bible was our owners manual and map for our journey through life. It has also been given the acronym B.asic I.nstructions B.efore L.eaving E.arth

It's because of the relationship between the New Testament and the Old Testament. The laws you cite are from the OT and have always been seen by Christians (from the NT on) as part of Jewish ritual law. The meaning of that law is fulfilled in Christ, therefore following the letter of the law is no longer necessary.

Your other reasons for not eating pork at debatable to say the least. Pigs are 'shameless'? What does that mean?

2007-01-01 18:21:55 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 2 0

Because that is a command from the Old Testament. I mean, they also said in the OT that you had to make animal sacrifices to go to heaven, but we don't do that anymore either. Alot of things changed when Jesus came to the earth and the New Testament was written.

And FYI: ALOT of other animals (and vegetables) can carry those same parasites. And TONS of other foods can create fat and caused clogged arteries.

And as for calling a pig a filthy and shameless animal, I bet you've never even seen one. They are very intelligent and posses many redeeming qualities.

Christians eat pork based on not eating pork was a ceremonial law, abolished by Christ, or not intended for those not Jews, like all ceremonial laws. Before God picked Abraham all animals were given to us to eat by God after the flood.

You do have a point about it not being healthy (not that i am the one to argue it, considering i drank 30 ounces of pop today). We are the temple of God and as such should care for our bodies. Also all things are lawful but not all things are expedient. Just because we can do it doesn't mean we should if it doesn't help, and brings hurt. If you define sin as missing the mark then it could be a sin. If you define it as transgressing a known (intact) law of God, then it probably isn't.

God appeared to Peter in a dream when a large napkin/tablecloth with it's corners tied together descended to the ground and opened, revealing all sorts of clean and unclean animals frolicking around together. God said to Peter, "Arise Peter, kill and eat." Peter said, "Not so Lord, for some of these are unclean." God replied, "Arise Peter, kill and eat. What I HAVE MADE CLEAN, CALL THOU NOT UNCLEAN. WHAT I HAVE MADE UNCLEAN, CALL THOU NOT CLEAN." I'm not certain why God suddenly allowed a change for the benefit of Christianity, but I do know that if pork is prepared properly, such terrible sicknesses you describe as occurring will not occur. The FDA, while obviously not affiliated with a church organization, IS responsible for the standards of health in animals that are to be slaughtered for human consumption. If their standards are not met, the meat is destroyed. If an individual mishandles the meat, the FDA couldn't be responsible, as long as proper warnings/education are made available to the consumer.

"Why is it that many former Christians become atheist after reading the bible?" i would have to say a big part of it is the churches' fault, as most churches never teach the "hard" parts of the Bible, so when a person gets to one of those parts and sees it is vastly different from the "sugar coated God" that they are taught about they tend to reject the Bible and Christianity because they think "how can God be loving, yet do all those things". "Or, that some people, when trying to find evidence and support for the claims in the bible, become atheist." i haven't heard of that before, however i have heard the opposite happening... (i.e. C.S. Lewis) "Wouldn't it seem that reading the bible would bring one closer with God?" with proper studying it does, the problem is that people tend to read what is said but remain ignorant of the details in the story that the Bible doesn't mention, for instance the Bible doesn't talk about how Baal (the "biggest" God in the region that the Israelites had conquered) was worshiped by placing a live infant on a heated statue (essentially cooking it alive) as a sacrifice

Having grown up around animals, I have to say that pigs are neither "filthy" nor "shameless" (whatever that means). Chickens and turkeys, for example, are far more filthy than pigs. The Bible prohibit ted certain foods because they were used in communal meals to seal covenants between nations.

Are you saying Christians should observe the 613 commandments of the bible. Those commandments were given to the Jews as part of the covenant with God. That would me you want very Christian to convert first to Judaism than to Christianity a sect of Judaism.

But there is a second covenant given to both Jews and non Jews. This is the second covenant and none of the 613 commandments apply. If you want restrictions, see 1 Cor 10:23-24.
