In Germany people who studied German are called: Germanisten. How do you call people who studied English? Which degree do they get? Thank you!

How do you call them?? I think you mean what do you call them.
But anyway...
English majors. The degree is usually a Communication Arts degree.

Americans call them British. (Because we speak American, not English). The British call them properly educated. Here in the States, MOST people get a high school diploma if they know American English.
Some of the slower ones have to go to college for another four years to study their own language. Those ones we call Business major drop outs!

Linguistics is the scientific study of language. Someone who engages in this study is called a linguist. Linguistics can be theoretical or applied. It's difficult to pigeon hole people into the term completely because while I 'teach " English -when I studied it - I had to study not only the grammar, usage, etc., but all the literature and time period of literature as well. (writers, poets, drama, etc.) This is where the theory or application comes in.

English majors is the term used in the USA. and their degree is good for teaching writing books and journalism. Other than that it is a complete waste of time!

They would be called English majors, i was studying that until i switched it to history.
