Because people don't respect others who don't share their beliefs. I've noticed this re religion & politics. Also responders are anonymous & can vent their biases' without fear of reprisal. Their lives must be filled with anger & hatred; a pretty sad way to live.

Although it's picked up in recent years, religion has alyways been, and always will be controversial. The founders of every major religion met with intense backlash during their lifetime, and that same backlash is bound to rear it's ulgy head every so often. The truth is, most people are unconfortable with the notion of a God or other force more powerful then they are. But still, religion endures in one form or another. Controversy only helps religion, It cannot destroy it. Christianity, the eternal lightning rod, has endured two thousand years of radical swings between support and loathing, yet still almost one third of the world identifies itself as belonging to one Christian sect or another. Religion will out last all of it's modern critics. It always has.

Religion bashing is nothing more than playground politics. idea's of i am better than you; and what i know is the way are narrow minded and niave. the idea of god is the same for all religions, followers of organized religion construed it by claiming the fact that there view is better then someone else's they both read from a book which neither was present to see written.

It's a direct response to the advocacy of a specific religion... That and many people are naturally trolls, that's how the internet works, 5 trolls to every non-troll. Now, as to how people become trolls, that's a complex matter, some think that the creator preordained which of us shall lack tact and intelligence while communicating in an interconnected network of signal carrying cables, and some believe it's an environmental trait. Personally I believe both camps are equally valid.

1) it's fun
2) religious people bash non religion all the time so why shouldn't we get in a few shots of our own?
3) religions use emotional blackmail to try and get people to conform - that is wrong
4) no-one has the right to force their way of thinking on others
5) religion is based purely on faith, it is entirely unproven and as such it is illogical to base your life on it
6) It is proven that there is a negative correlation between IQ and Religiousness

there, six reasons

i would however be willing to retire from my life of religion bashing should all religious people cease and desist from bashing my lack of religion (I am not saying that everyone who does it, i mean that everyone that actually does should stop)

Any religion that claims to be the only way to God is asking for bashing. Common sense must prevail.

I think it is just people finally saying I am not a _____ {faith here} and showing others that they are not the only game in town any longer and cant force people to belive anything anymore.

I for one am happy about that becasue.. Why should we all be the same dull thing as others?

I have NO IDEA! Seems to me like none of these people trading insults are faithful to their religions. If they were they wouldn't be devoting there time to insulting each other. They would be uplifting one another and trying to live in peace together.

Its a stupid outdated ideal to be religious. To try and clear up missconceptions and expose certain truths may usually take the form of bashing but it is a nessesary evil.

I don't know, what is it with the Inquisition or the fight against stem cell research or the bombing of abortion clinics or the suicide bombers or the "crusade" President Bush has going in Iraq?

Why, in lieu of all these ills caused directly by religion, is religion itself off the table for criticism? I can be critical of your scientific, political, philosophical, or sexual beliefs, but WOE IS HE who questions religious belief!
