I'm going to be painting a kitchen, bedrooms, a living room and a hallway. I need help with what colors I should pick though. I have never really decorated myself so I don't want it to look bad. I love warm cozy colors and not fond of bold sharp colors. I'm thinking a light yellow would be nice in a kitchen. What other colors give off that warm feeling? I've been living in an apartment with plain white walls and I'm just dying for a little color but I don't want to do everything in yellow either. :)

Plain white walls are killers. I am not fond of the bright colours either. I personally like earth tones, they always make a place feel warm and cozy. If you stay with the earth tones, you also are more flexible with the colours you use for accents, and can bring bolder colours into the rooms with pillows, curtains, and other things like that. When you do start to paint, I have found that Killz is awesome to use. You can have colours added to base white, and it usually only takes one coat.

Good luck with the redecorating.

Because you're not quite sure which colours would best suit you and your home yet, the hallway should be painted a neutral colour -- a medium-light beige shade. Continue this colour on any walls that lead directly off the hallway into the kitchen and/or living room. With a neutral shade used this way, should you decide one day to change your other colours, you can still leave these walls as is to save on time and materials.

Soft almost-buttery yellows are very warm and inviting colours. They work wonderfully with many different colours, depending on the style you're going for... blue & yellow with white accents (either furniture or trim paint) is more country, while yellow & caramel can work with almost any style, yellow & deep darker orange (almost a rusty colour) is either modern or exotic depending on your furniture, yellow works well with lilac shades for young girls' bedrooms.

The best thing about soft yellows is that they look really good with other soft shades nearby, so for instance if you can see your living room from your kitchen, don't be scared to do the living room yellow and caramel, and the kitchen a warm celery green or the caramel or even a deeper gold shade, or blue.

Your bedrooms don't have to match perfectly with the other colours. Choose colours from your bedding for these walls.

Good luck!

There is this sort of watery, pale blue color that has just a hint of green in it. It is so tranquil and calming and it would still look good with the light yellow. You could also add an amber or caramel color since you like the warm feeling in the room. It's best to try to stick to no more three main colors. Best of luck to you!

What color are your kitchen cabinets? I love light yellow in a kitchen depending on cabinets. A light green will be a nice color for the kitchen also. For bedrooms, I would say a neutral color light a sage green or light brown (tan). For your living room, consider a light tan, pale yellow or cream. The same colors can be used for the hallway also. Good Luck. See ideas by clicking on links.

Pale green is always nice for a relaxing feel, as well as soft blues. Most soft colors work well together, so things shouldn't clash too much, just avoid pink...I find it looks too ubiquitous in anything but a bedroom or bath.

you should try suede effect. It's very nice and easy to do.
I don't think you should paint the hallway though.
when you do paint don't do every room different colours. feature walls are best for bed rooms, living rooms and halls.
Kithchen- cool colours like light blue and light green.
Bedroom- dont use cool colours for bedrooms as they are supposed to be cosy so you could use suede feature walls in cosy colours like reds and purples.
Halls- suede in a darker shade of cream.
Lounge room- It looks so much better if you do feature walls in lounge rooms because painting every wall looks like a bit to much. cosy colours and even if you don't like bold colours they look more cosier in suede. Good Luck!!!!

sage green, taupe, pumpkin - you can browse through colors at http://www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/ They even allow you to pick one color you like, and will give you a whole color pallet the coordinates (for accent colors, or for adjoining rooms). Kind of fun!
