My oldest cat (Cleo) just recently got attacked by a dog. She's still recuperating, but will be fine. The problem is with my other cat (Caly). Right after we brought Cleo home from the vet, Caly was scared to death of her. They used to be best buds, but now if Caly gets anywhere near Cleo she starts hissing and growling. Cleo is on some different medications that make her drowsy, so she can't really defend herself when Caly tries to attack.

Is this a normal reaction for Caly to have? If so, will she go back to accepting Cleo again?

There's a change in the dynamics of your cats environment so it has thrown Caly off. What you need to do is spend one hour a day holding Caly in your lap and petting her even if she doesn't want to. After doing that a week you can then hold both cats. It's called aversion therapy. I use it with clients but it was first tried out with cats and dogs and worked well.

Cleo most likely smells like the vet office (and all those meds). Caly thinks she's a different cat. In time, Caly will recognize Cleo when Cleo makes the full recovery and starts "shedding" her own scent again. In the meantime, if I were you, keep the two cats in separate spaces... If Cleo is out, put Caly in the cat kennel or carrier. If Caly is out, put Cleo in. They can still smell each other, and that will help in the re-introduction.

I am so sorry to hear about Cleo!! That must be very hard for her and everyone who cares about her! Caly might just feel like the house is her territory. It could also be that Cleo is in a weak condition and it is her time to become the dominant cat of the household. I found that my cat got picked on by the others when he got into a bad fight. It could be many things. Try keeping Cleo separated from Caly until she is well enough to show some dominance :)

If you just brought one cat home from the vet, the other cat probably smells all the vets office on the kitty you just brought home. Give them both a few days to get back to normal. The vet's scent will wear off Cleo and your other cat should stop trying to attack her. Once Cleo is off the drugs, she will probably get back to normal. She's just scared and probably not feeling well so she doens't want to be bothered.

Good luck.

sure, 11 is a senior cat. As others suggested, i might want to extremely recommend a visit to the vet for cuddles. As pets age issues can bypass incorrect and a powerful exam, bloodwork and urine favor to be performed. might want to be merely older age yet might want to signify the cat needs medical interest. every time a puppy transformations behaviour without note this is an illustration of a medical challenge or drastic replace in surroundings, stress. Our pets do unusual issues to get our interest even as they prefer help. merely gotta pay interest.

Give it time. Things should go back to normal.
There is a chance of course for whatever reason things may not ever be the same but give it about four to six weeks to see. Be patient with the animal world. It can be unpredictable at times. That's the chance we take to love them. I hope you still keep them both if things don't go back to "normal".
