The United States - population 300 million - annual murders on average 13,000. Religious: most dedicated to God in the Western World

Western Europe - population 450 million - annual murders on average - less then 25% of the US murder rate. Religious: It's there but between the drugs and prostitues no one is really paying attention to it.

Middle East - population dwindling - average monthly murder rate 4,000. Religious: The Koran is everything and all things. No booze, no smoking, no sex, no showing of too much ankle.

It seems that religion equals a more depressed society and therefore a more violent people. The Europeans having a a much more liberal society have more peace.

Should it not be the exact opposite?

I'm not religious, but please do not pass Europe off as the answer. Most of the world's misery has its roots to our European ancestors.

Its simplistic to blame faith, you know that, but by golly we sure find away to drape Jesus and Mohamed in our fights.

Lets be serious. People are volatile, religion is just a banner under which we march. If there was no religion we would disagree over which end of the egg we crack the shell....Yahoo!

LOL

Kid, Europe is wonderful, Ilove you all, but people are asses regardless of the faith (or lack of).

You forgot to mention the Soviet Union- oh, wait!! There was no religion there; just the slaughter of untold millions. You also forgot to mention China... oops!! No religion there either. African tribes aren't killing each other over religious beliefs. It's all about which tribe is supposedly inherently better. Of course there are exceptions, but I think it's unfair to suggest that the cause of the world's problems stem from the belief that a man preaching about love got nailed to a stick. 1930s Germany? Nope!! Just people thinking that they're better than the rest of the world.
I think the difference is that in these religious countries the killing is more random, even if it is more publicized. In the Atheistic countries I mentioned the Atheists were in control and could prevent the news of all the death at their own hands. Maybe that's why we don't hear much of what's happening there?

Karl Marx said religion is the opiate of the masses. When people have no hope for a decent life, whether because of the Czar or being born into an inner-city ghetto, religion can give them hope for the after-life. But the cost is buying the while package, believing everything, including understanding that other believers are heretics or infidels. So often people with the least to preserve fight the hardest.

Im from Europe and not all countries are more secular then USA. For example Poland is 90% Christians and theres are much more fundamental then USA. I doubt that you can get accurate statistics from Muslim countries. I do agree fundamental religion makes people violent i would also say islam is the most violent since its the most hard core religion. Atheism by it self does not make for a perfect society. Example North Korea.(well kinda) My point is its more then murder rates. Its also poverty and the level of religious power.(but i agree the less the better)

You would think so but the morals is the issue here also You must understand if one goes against the rules and regulation of self or others no matter the reason you must die for these crimes so you must understand the Europeans have caused chaos all over the world for eons of time, Sure those fools are too stoned and low to commit murder but hay seems to me they sure commit lots of suicides so you must think my friend on these terms and i bet you they kill large humans giving legal abortions also you also need to know this i bet the HIV RATE there is sky high and drug over doses are huge so think on this please!

also before i go how can a coward kill , now but them in a group ( army and they are tough get one by himself low moral connected and he would beg for his life believe that
one is mouse one is man!

Wow - what are you, a political science major? Do suppose little things like laws, police, penalties, and prison conditions have some sort of impact on crime statistics? Nah - religion must the defining factor. Sounds a little naive to me.

Have you heard of a little country called China? Do some research on that, and then tell me who is more violent.

You have given mind boggling data...Of course religious deaths are there every where in our world..What is the motive behind it..one has to assess and find a proper solution...It could be due to too much dependency of the religious preachers who guide the youths to take the sword...I believe pen and dog are better compared to any other weapon. Now it is the Internet..free forums like that one we have in yahoo.. to express frankly...

If you throw in the 1000's of abortions in the USA the murder rate goes up even higher.

Do not throw the blame on religion about the violence being committed in all parts of the world because violence has no connection on religion. Violence is committed by individual person, and that is his own doing, hence not dectated by religion. there is no such religion responsible for such violent crimes comitted or being committed.those people who are committing crimes are not really religious people although they belong to a sect of religious organization. Those who are really religious people have no ideaa of doing such crimes

Ive often wondered why the crime rate is higher in cities with less Christianity (Philadelphia, NYC, and LA) than in cities with more Christianity (Houston, Atlanta, and Nashville)
