And to get work done to. Do we really need music to concentrate/get work done?

To concentrate? I don't think so.

It all depends on the context, really. Is it background music while we are performing mindless tasks, like data entry or laundry or something else rather manual and not too mentally challenging? If so, then music makes that work more less tedious. You may think of that as concentration, but I would call it a harmless yet enjoyable distraction. It doesn't interfere with our work in this circumstance, but it does make our work less monotonous.

If what we are doing is something more cerebral, like a report, then music can be too distracting (especially if it's not quiet). It can break concentration in this context. Likewise, if we're concentrating on something that requires deep focus and a song comes on that we totally hate or completely love (to the point that we have to change the station or sing along), that too can interrupt our thinking.
