In Victoria, Australia where I live we have water restrictions in place which means we can't water driveways, footpaths, etc (who would anyway? Use a broom, people!)... and they're getting stricter (no washing cars, no watering gardens outside of set times)...

All this is GOOD, I'm certainly not complaining! Just wondering what tips you guys have for everyone out there who would like to make a difference to our environment.

Here's my first tip: put a bucket under the kitchen tap and use that water to rinse dishes, wash vegies, etc.

-Take shorter showers.
-Don't drink so much water. A few bottles/glasses a day when you need it or are thirsty is fine, but I see people chug down 10 or more glasses a day. This one's a double whammy. First you are saving water by drinking less, and second you don't have to go to the bathroom as much and that means less toilet flushing.
-Don't eat meat as much (I can't say I subscribe to this one personally). It takes ridiculous amount of water to raise cattle, pigs, chicken, ect.
-Water your plants in the early morning or late evening so that less of your water evaporates from the heat of the day and more stays in the soil for the planets.
-Turn off your sprinklers for a day or two after it rains. No point in wasting watering the lawn when plenty of it fell out of the sky the night before.
-Bring your car to a car wash that reclaims/recycles the water it uses.

Take shorter showers, wash your car less often, reuse water from washing your hands to wash fruits and vegetables then reuse it again to rinse dishes and use a dual flush toilet.

I turn off my sprinklers and drip system when its raining, or if it has been raining. And I turn them completely off during the winter.
