Actually, a whole bunch did have a problem with it, from the press at the time. However, since the parents of the fleeing Americans sent money to support them, it wasn't the same economic impact on Canada as illegals have here, and they were already past k-12 education level when they went, so they didn't hurt education for Canadian children.

Actually they did. Many Canadians were upset as they didn't want their country being ILLEGAL in the eyes of their friendly neighbor the USA. There were of course others who were friendly and did what they could to help the American deserters.

Point in fact is, the AMerican deserters, didn't create a fiscal drain, crime and a job loss to millions of Canadians. Also, Canada acutally want and needs immigrants as they have a kind of flat line population. They need new blood.
Are any of you illegals listening? This is no joke.
It's one of the reasons I won't go to Canada if I feel the need to leave the US because our government doesn't do the right thing and remove our present illegals and stop them at the border in the future.
The USA is not the only or best place to immigrate. The illegals have to date figured it was OK to come and do as they please. I suspect that all is going to change one way or the other. Happily, I think the party is over.
Tough times ahead for illegals, one way or the other. It's going to be jail for being illegal ...or they are going to have to start to pay taxes and cover their own behinds just like the rest of us. They won't find it so easy to skate working for $6 and hour AND paying taxes. How is it said, Bien Venido Amigos.

No, many Canadians were against the Vietnam war. I know a place called Upper Kent in New Brunswick where several ex-Americans moved and assimilated. They adjusted well and became citizens, one of them I know well, started his own log home business, employs many locals and has made a real contribution to that part of the world.

Your question implies that Americans shouldn't complain about illegal Mexicans sneaking across the border, taking low paying jobs, and living off the tax payers.

The fact that you complain about anti-illegals and true Americans just shows how ungrateful you are, were not gonna let you slide anymore, maybe we would, if you only contributed something sustainable (24 hr. Taco Bell doesn't count) and shut up.

They just kinda blended into the countryside like they belonged.
I grew up near some and i didn't know it till the told me. They were honest hard working productive members of our society. Maybe just a little on the hippy side , LOL, my dad called them cowards but I made my own opinion.
